Our neighbors once made the mistake of burning some household garbage in their backyard. An aerosol can shot up out of the fire, hit a tree by their house and ended up setting the house on fire. Stupid games = stupid prizes.
@harrisongrant855822 күн бұрын
I learned not to burn aerosol cans the hard way when I was a kid. See, apparently putting a sealed pressure vessel with flammable compounds inside it into a fire is not a very good idea unless you're trying to create a bomb, and that's exactly what it sounded like when it exploded. Luckily nobody else was around, but it scared the hell out of me and I never did that again.

@johndeaux88156 ай бұрын
With the keg myth, kegs are usually refilled and reused many times. The keg they used had some minor knicks to it. Considering how much a keg costs, I would think that it'd only get thrown on a fire if it was so damaged that you would feel ripped off by how much less beer it'd hold when full. (Eg. Someone kicks it over and it rolls down a hill or off a table, or some particularly hefty person trips on it twice, knocking it over and falling straight on top of it.) That additional damage would create a lot more points of failure for the keg around the perimeter. Obviously it's a bit late for a revisit, but that's my 2c 😊

What Mythbusters tells us is that getting the perfect conditions so an explosion or other disaster occurs is hard, like getting the right mix of a given products like oxygen and gasoline in a given volume. But entropy and big numbers will make so that after a while, it always happens somewhere that perfect conditions for catastrophe occur and disaster always happens in a completely unforeseen manner. Like the well known explosions caused by wood dust, for example.

My Hawaiian brother in law (rip) told me a story of throwing a can of shaving cream into a bed of hot coals on the beach. A group of surfers and their girlfriends were all asleep around the fire pit. My brother in law and his other Navy friends had had a dispute with them earlier. He said when it blew up it looked like a volcano and rained hot coals down on everyone within a 20-30' radius. They stood in the darkness and cheered Pele's retribution. He laughed about that his entire life. This was in the late 60's in the San Diego area somewhere.

The worst thing to throw into a fire is a jeu de boule/petanque ball. They're concrete cores with a metal layer cast on top. It is essentially a perfectly sealed pressure vessel with the shear lines already cut in. The concrete, and the remaining water, heats up until the metal skin can't take the pressure and it explodes like a frag grenade. In the Netherlands, this killed someone last summer. Someone had thrown one of those balls into a fire, it exploded and a chunk hit a guy in the head. He died on the spot.

@Yvolve Жыл бұрын
