I had a lot of fun going out on my first weekend with the new Gemini 5K S35 camera from Red. It's got amazing performance, especially in low-light conditions, and not just low-light, but extreme low-light; down right night.

Watch out for the vertical noise patterns (FNP) that plague most digital sensors.

For sure! It's most definitely apparent at the extreme 10:30pm night shots.

What's the point of those fake black bars ? They aren't even black, they are grey, Why people can't just export the video in the desired aspect ratio ?

We apologize that those bars were distracting for you, however, those aren't fake black bars. If you're familiar with shooting on Red cameras, you would know that there are many aspect ratios to choose from between each available resolution. For example, you can shoot in "5K", or "5K WS", among others. The "5K" option is full field of view of the sensor which is actually slightly larger than a 16:9 format. That's why those bars are there because it was shot in that 5K full FOV to take advantage of the entire space the sensor has to offer, but exported in a 4K 16:9 format; hence the black bars. Had we shot it in 5K WS then we wouldn't have the bars, or we could have cropped it, but felt it would be more beneficial to play with the integrity or format of the the original shot as possible. did you shoot and color graded on IPP2 mode? i own the gemini as well with 50$ lens and it looks sooo muuchh better than that, beautiful shots im talking about the quality it self. the ungraded and graded looks to similar to each other idk.. maybe im wrong

To be honest those last shots low light were unusable. Way too much noise

Holy shit that was badly graded.. you make graded pictures looks ungraded...
