Amazing to see the well scripted movies of the 1930s, when film makers were still figuring out how to do it, learning as they went. They depended more on quality scripts then, because good special effects were still in their future. Tip of the hat to those studios which literally wrote the book on film making.

Such a good-one; Thank-You!! I thought that was Shirley Temple, but wasn’t positive until I checked the credits. …She looks like she must have been 3-4 yrs old here, so I’m guessing that this must have been one of her first Roles - if not THE first. She was such a dear little Kidlette!

One thing I like about these old movies is how they get the title and credits over in a couple of minutes and then get on with the film. Credit where credit is due but recently I saw a new movie where the credits were interspersed in the beginning of the movie for a full 15 MINUTES. Couldn't enjoy the film after those 15 minutes of torture.

Fascinating story. Married to Busby Berkeley in 1934 and divorced a year later, died of a heart attack at age 36 four days after her marriage to Master Sgt. Forrest Brayton in 1944. Berkeley loved women and maybe too much during their brief marriage. God only knows what kind of a marriage to Brayton that was. Four days after the wedding and bada bing. Call me sentimental but reading of her life and death makes me sad at her end. Way too young IMHO to suffer a fatal heart attack, unheard of in these days and times I think.
@ladywisewolf3942 Жыл бұрын
@@billkarmetsky4003 Berkeley was a notorious alcoholic and ended up killing someone while driving drunk. The studio covered it up of course ( they had the power to do that in those days ). I don't know for sure but that might have been part of what broke their marriage up.

Hi Janet : ) I wouldn't use the word "amnal" concerning your comment. You have just as much right to express your opinion about a movie as anyone else. You are right, the make-up crew should have fixed the actress's fingernail polish. That's what I like about these old movies, they are real to life. I have made observations on movies and gotten some really nasty feed back. SO WHAT! That's the other person's problem ..not mine. I am still going to comment on the movie. Have A Blessed Day!

This 1932 stagey film directed by Christy Cabanne in the very early days of sound is of interest primarily because it features an unusually appealing performance by the very likable and vulnerable 5 foot 2 inch actress Merna Kennedy---one of Charlie Chaplin's ingenues [The Circus] as well as one of Busby Berkeley's wives. Shirley Temple, then only four years old, is amazing believable and natural in a small role; it's no wonder she was destined for stardom only a few years later. Grant Withers is suitably sleazy as the bad guy. Lots of New York City atmosphere here for fans of the pre-code period. An interesting curiosity, very evocative of the times..

A pretty predictable twist at the end. It's a good thing the .32-caliber gun isn't the murder weapon. The DA would prosecute those policemen whose fingerprints are all over it. Fred Kelsey had almost 500 (500!!!) film and TV credits to his name, usually, as here, playing a cop or detective. He's very funny in the serial _The Green Archer_ , playing an inept police detective.
