I remember when this came out, it was huge! When MTV was still a thing music was so fun. The whole Love Sugar Sex Magic album is incredible.

"Blood," not "Love." in the title there, just sayin'. But yes, MTV was fire then and on fire with this, and this album dropped like The BOMB that it was!

Flea is a madman on that bass. He's the fkn GOAT 🐐 fr fr. The RHCP's used to come out on stage wearing nothing but tube socks on their junk. They're wild AF. Really good live, super tight. They have lots of funny videos. Mothers Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magick were their best albums, imo. Y'all should check out 'Suck My Kiss', 'I Could've Lied' and 'The Adventures of Lipstick Maggie'. They have an awesome discography though- You can't really go wrong with them.🤘

The lyrical meaning behind "Give It Away" is centered on the philosophy of selflessness and altruistic behavior. The song is titled after its most prevalent lyrical phrase "give it away", which is taken from an experience Kiedis had with his former girlfriend-punk rock singer Nina Hagen - in the early 1980s. Hagen was several years Kiedis' senior and became a role-model during his drug addiction to heroin: "she realized how young and inexperienced I was then, so she was always passing on gems to me, not in a preachy way, just by seizing on opportunities."When Kiedis was looking through her closet he came across a jacket he liked, and commented to Hagen that it was "really cool". Upon expressing this, Hagen immediately told him to keep it. Her reasoning behind this selflessness was due to an attempt to constantly make her life more enjoyable, and explained to Kiedis that "if you have a closet full of clothes and you try to keep them all, your life will get very small. But if you have a full closet and someone sees something they like, if you give it to them, the world is a better place."

Gotta check out the lyrics. The video throws it off a bit, but it’s all about giving away love, and kindness. I remember looking up the lyrics because he mentioned Marley. “Bob Marley, poet and a prophet Bob Marley, taught me how to off it Bob Marley, walkin' like he talk it” One more verse: “There's a river born to be a giver Keep you warm won't let you shiver His heart is never gonna wither Come on everybody, time to deliver”

I've been impressed with their music since they first came out...and my impression became greater when I read that George Clinton (of P-funk) offered to produce one of their earlier albums. Like...how good are you for THE Funk-King himself to offer that?

One this album came out they were one of the biggest bands in the world, shock value for them was just doing what they wanted..famous rolling stone magazine cover of the band wearing nothing but socks over their stuff, saw them in concert playing in their underwear..wasnt uncommon for one or several during concerts to just play butt naked. Regardless, amazing live, Flea is just a show himself with how he plays the bass
