For many people Gong-Li is a unknown song, and that's just one reason I love it more. I hope people will find this song and have the same feeling when I heard it for the first time. I became a Pepper fan since Californication came out when I was 11 years old. I found this song somewhere in 2004 when I was 16 years old. Still can't believe I found it so late... It was like finding big treasure. An awesome feeling. This is such a wonderful masterpiece. One of the best RHCP tracks and definitely the best B-Side ever made! I just love this song. It's just so sensitive, emotional and it brings so much sphere. Thx for uploading this.

This song was written about John Frucsiante. A total vague emotional reaction from Anthony about how and why he heard John left the band and how much it affected him. This was Anthony’s love song to John and it solidifies how strongly John’s departure affected Anthony and how much Anthony realized how arrogant he was. John and Ant both acted like insensitive children at the time due to serious business obligations. But I’m glad they both found stability and a version of themselves they can live with.

As someone born and raised in LA. Chili Peppers were like my rocker cousins band. Jammed out trying to imitate Frusciante’s riffs. RHCP means a lot to me. I got older and understood the songs more and felt exactly like the words sung. And this track is a b-side track but I’ve loved it since I’ve heard it. Wish I could stream or download it someplace. Until then… Gong Li lives on in 2023.

I believe (and I think I read it somewhere) this song is about the relationship between AK and JF when he returned. It's about embracing and forgiving, that uncondiotional love we feel for the people close to us, no matter what happened or is happening. Love with no regrets, unchanging...for our parents, family, our dearest friends...
@tombayley
@tombayley 9 жыл бұрын
Carlos Legorburu as above comment. It was written by Flea for his solo album. But the feeling you get for the song remains the same and it's still a beautifully raw and direct song, non the less. Regardless of who it was written for and why.

Perfect song. The instrumental is in an odd time signature and creates tension, maybe symbolizing conflict and then the chorus is in 4/4 to symbolize forgiveness and relief given by the restored relationship. Anthony's tone and the way his voice blends with John's is just out of this world.

One of my favorites. Reminds me of my relationship with a friend I once had. I wish he was still my friend but unfortunately misunderstandings and a one sided friendship drove us apart. Holy shite! I had no idea Froosh was back even several months after news dropped on that! I am SO looking forward to their 2020 album now. For me, Froosh is the key to their sound being what it is when they're at their best. Klinghoffer is an awesome guitarist but Frusciante is THE Peppers' guitarist, anyone else is just trying their best to play something Froosh-esque that doesn't sound bad. So psyched about this news though!

So this song is about the relationship between Frusciante and Anthony? They honestly formed the core of this band. Frusciante's a musical genius with amazing chord progressions and melodies, and Anthony's a great song writer and lyricist. They have opposite personalities: Frusciante introverted and Anthony extroverted. But I think they creatively complemented each other. RHCP has lost its spark without Frusciante, but they at least have 3 masterpiece albums

Julian Barker-Hill I've always wondered if this song was about Anthony's & John's relationship. As a curious observer of those two, I've always thought Anthony was a lot more tolerant and understanding and patient of John than John is of Anthony. I absolutely love and appreciate John's dedication to his art and consider him to be one of the very best guitarists of his generation and I'm ecstatic that he's back in the band but I do think he has a bad habit of not respecting what Anthony brings to the RHCP. Anthony is a helluva frontman. I know he's not the world's greatest singer but neither is Iggy Pop or Lou Reed to name just a couple. But he brings an energy and excitement to the band that would be difficult to find from anyone else.

Yeah, 5 masterpiece albums with Frusciante on guitar is true. Stoked that he’s back. Hopefully they crank out another album before tensions rise and he leaves again. I’m reminded a bit of the dynamic between Eddie Van Halen and David lee Roth. They had amazing musical chemistry but also had personality conflicts and drove each other crazy. So they kept breaking up and getting back together in the band. But every time they came together they created magic

Whenever a single was released, there was a "b-side" and an "a-side" to the album, and now when singles are released, there's extra tracks on the downloadable content, and those are the b-sides.

This song was mine and my brothers song he passed away on St Patrick's day 2000.after passing his licence test that day he celebrated with a box of stienlager🍻 beers and a acid 🃏 tab along with a few nice joints I think often that alcohol! ,, not the drugs was the cause of him falling off a rooftop carpark to his death whilst tryna take a piss. We were supposed to go 🏄surfing the day after but it was never to happen. Rest in peace my big brother Julian Patrick Dee 8.3.84 -- 17.3.2000☁☁
