Meanwhile John was in his house up in the hills, well on his way to a very dark place. Not many bands have the resilience the Chili's do to keep on going after everything they went through with Hillel, Anthony's addiction and losing John as a force of nature on two occasions. Not really digging the music since John left but credit to Anthony and Flea for being the real deal since the very beginning and never stopping. Chad too for racking up almost 30 years now

I think their surprised by the songs they won against, the ppl nominated already knows who wins. Gnr knows rhcp won and rhcp know they won. But i dont think they know what songs they was uo against they knew the bands they was against but not the songs. Nirvana opened for RHCP, they took them out on the Blood Sugar Sex Magik tour with them. Nirvana never played to auidences that big before that tour. RHCP also had Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins on that tour.

Because the 1993 Grammy awards celebrate the previous year. This Grammy Awards was in Feb 1993. BSSM did come out in September 1991 but it wasn't truly until 1992 that the album took off. Most of these bands were still touring in support of those albums.

RHCP had been around much longer. Pearl Jam and Nirvana were opening for RHCP on their Blood Sugar Sex Magik tour. RHCP truly gave them their biggest exposure to larger crowds and venues. RHCP in 1992 headlined Lollapalooza which included PJ, Soundgarden etc. They were considered the bigger band at the time. Not sure why you don't think they deserved the Grammy. Blood Sugar Sex Magik was their 5th album. PJ and Nirvana were on their first albums, AIC on their second album.
