Hei, vest for Nordkapp er det utryddelsesfiske, så der kan alle delta. Men det er en del båter som fisker på dette, så det er mye mindre krabbe å få. De ivrigste bruker flere hundre teiner i dette området.

When is the season at king crabs ?

Hello, Captain! In Norway you can catch King Crab all year. But April-June is normally bad timing as the crab has soft shell in this period. I normally fish during summer, as there is light all day and night and calm seas!

This kind of fishing is done by smaller boats, with mostly one person. If you are EU-citizen, you have the same right to start fishing in Norway as a Norwegian. The easiest thing then is to buy a small boat and start fishing, after applying. You can get a decent starting boat for €30 000 with some equipment. The boat I own, a larger one at 35 feet, is approx. €150 000.

Right here I think 55 fathoms, around 330 feet.... Yees , we do it slowly 😂 In the weeks before Christmas it is actually possible to take a stroll at the beach catching king crab as they go to veeery shallow waters then, like half a foot!

If weather permits, we go out every day... But I think this string had been in the ocean for two days, as the factory on land had full stocks and could not buy every day.

How do the crabs get exported alive if they are put in Nally Bins without circulating water?

After each string I examine the catch. Each and every crab is checked for injuries, meat quality etc. The crabs are then put in circulating water. This is especially important during summer, when direct sunlight and the heat will lead to mass death! Only the finest crabs are so unlucky as to accompany me to port to the crab buyer. At the crab buyer, the crabs are also kept in circulating water. And then put on f.ex. slush-ice when exported, as they will survive several days when kept at zero degrees C this way. Top quality!!
