Tight lines brother from Florida USA. Have you ever thought of using a counter weight system to pull the leader/fish over instead of hand pulling and gaffing each one?
@norwayfishing
@norwayfishing 5 ай бұрын
Thank you! Most of the locals here use a hydraulic system that pulls the line up the last fathoms and makes it easier for your back to handle ton after ton in a season... 😆
@fvnetincome2817
@fvnetincome2817 5 ай бұрын
@@norwayfishing I use a counterweight type system myself, but my leaders aren't as long and fish aren't as big as yours. I use a 20lb lead cannon ball weight in a 20ft PVC pipe that I stand up in the boat like a mast and I run a pulley off the top of the pipe. I clip the rope from the cannonball to my leader with a long line clip and the cannonball goes down the PVC and lifts my leader and fish right up, I dehook the fish as it's lifting. It cost me about $50 usd to make but has saved me unimaginable amounts of time and fatigue. My leaders always stay straight and never tangle when coming in the boat. Maybe just a thought for you to think of something similar to take some strain off your body. Fishing is hard work and every way to make it easier is a win.
@norwayfishing
@norwayfishing 5 ай бұрын
Fishing is hard work, we agree! In 2018 I had a total of 68 metric tons of cod in 8 weeks. My back needed some weeks to recuperate after that! I attach a video here, so you can investigate what most fishermen in Norway use when jigging. It is a hydraulic system which helps pull the fish into the boat. Saves a lot of work and agony, but it is also less humane to the fishing line so you must accept the line to break more often, compared to using your own muscles which are a finer instrument. This guy is fishing saithe, excellent fish, closely related to cod, but much cheaper! kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZC9cp6ggNB0ebM

Thank you for your kind reply. I totally agree with you, any person should thrive to know and learn. I guess that is why we both know it is a fact that sound mostly travels better through water than air. But the claim is that the sound of the engine is torture for these beasts... I ask then for documentation of this claim. as it seems unfounded, and you and I cannot accept unfounded claims, as this is opposite to our eagerness to know and learn. There is also a challenge turning off the engine, as that would stop the charging of the batteries and make the boat dead in the water after just a few minutes, due to the amount of electricity such vessel uses.

@@norwayfishing A long time ago I worked with dolphins. We conducted research recording vocalizations underwater. Unfortunately, we discovered the sound of the motors (filtration,) drowned out the sounds of the dolphins vocalizing. There is ample evidence that human activity, boats, ships, etc, does impact marine life. As intelligent human beings, we can learn how to help the marine life we love through careful observations and understanding of our impacts. You are lucky to be on the ocean every day and see these magnificent animals, so much can be learned from them, the fact they come so close to you is telling you something, what an honor.
@norwayfishing
@norwayfishing 8 ай бұрын
Yes, you are totally right about the human impact, not only on marine life, but on all life on this planet. As any other kind of beast, man also has it's place in the fauna and flora of this globe. As a species with excellent intellect, Man should thrive to use it to protect this, our only home! Often a lot of these white-beaked dolphins goofing around the fishing vessels come April.
