Komodo definitely has a more natural look. Color overall looks better IMO. Would've been interesting to see some global shutter vs rolling shutter tests. I've found that when filming quick pans, handheld moving (walking) footage and generally anything fast moving that the Komodo's global shutter really shines. Since you mentioned the C70 I want to say that I've used both the Komodo and C70 side-by-side and the C70 is a great pairing w/ Komodo.

As an FX9 owner, I completely agree with your assessment. I find the FX9 to be the true “red” camera due to the fact that every color correction starts with reducing the reds in the shadows. Followed by the green saturation. 😂. All that being said I don’t regret owning it. Considering buying a Komodo or KX in addition to for different types of work. Thanks for sharing!

I own an FX9 and a C70 and I also owned a Komodo for a year and over that year I barely used the Komodo because as a solo shooter most of the time it is not the best camera for me despite the great image it produces. I use the C70 and FX9 on interviews and I don't think its very hard to match them if you shoot a chart and use color management and DWG/Intermediate in Resolve.

As a Canon C70 shooter you confirmed my bias. Yeah, confirmation bias. That's it. Sony shooters will argue you can always color correct the image in post. But that's not the point here. All cameras look good nowadays. So it's more about checking function boxes and how you like to shoot.

Same conclusion owning Komodo, C70 & C500MK2 and been using FS5, FX3 and FX6 on shoots. Sony just has over saturated unnatural colors and it makes the the post more complicated and you have to start by fixing Sony colors which ads one step to to the process and you end up loosing time...

Thanks that was what I was trying to say. As I’m thinking of buying a c500 Mk II this year how is this camera compared to Komodo?
@terovisual Жыл бұрын
@@pauleporterdp Well yeah there are no short answers to this one: I have more experience with C500MK2 since I have owned it since 02/2020 and the Komodo since 12/2022 and shot two Documentaries with the C500Mk2. In terms of image quality I prefer the Komodo and the R3D file. It is easier to edit and get the look you want.. Ergonomics and usability / IO are better in C500MK2. That nice FF look is nice. It is a versatile camera for run & gun and more crew operated jobs. Bootup time is a pluss for Canon. I´m not a colorist but in my experience it is easier to work with R3D file. It is more like editing RAW images. After all CinemaRAWLight is already partial debayerd in camera and 12bit. And the Canon file is more toxic to to you computer. I work both in PC with 5950X / 2080Ti /64G with Fast Raid M.2 drives and M1MAX and the issue is still there. Its just not possible with out Proxy workflow. I think the patent RED owns for in camera RAW is making things hard for other brands to get to same level. C500MK2 sensor is not the fastest around 15ms so the global shutter on Komodo makes all shots with motion more pleasing to my eye. The frame is just more compact and its better for stabilising in post. Usually getting better results in handheld shots than with Canon and digi IBIS . Still holding on to the Canon because of its AF, versatility and usability. And I manly shoot the XF-AVC Codecs for the reason of poor performance in RAW codec. But I think some of these are personal preferences and and would like to hear what thoughts other C500MK2 owners have? Keep shooting !!!

The Komodo is unique since I believe it’s a global shutter. Your comments on the Sony are really Deja Vu. Here we go another amateur doing camera tests. You can never compare the image unless you use indentical lenses on both cameras to begin with. And with that I mean even if you use the same lenses, you need to use the same adapters for the mount since internal light hitting the adapter may give you less contrast since the light bounces around in there. And that´s just one of many points you are missing here. Ignore this video, short answer is that the FX9 is way better than the Komodo when used by a pro and not by an amateur.
