What I love about Red Mist Retake is that it turns the story into something completely different in the most unique way I've ever seen. Squidward's Suicide goes from a lost episode made by a deranged serial killer to possibly an animatic made by a grieving animator working at Nick who secretly made this as their way to cope and was never meant to be seen by anyone else.

It feels like the Red Mist itself is more of a state of mind than an entity or event. Almost like a visual depiction of a mental health spiral. The scene where that fish pleas with squidward and warns him of the coming Red Mist is so dissonant and so sudden, and I wanna say it’s a good representation of the first warning signs of declining mental health. The vague hint that something isn’t right. But squidward didn’t confront or recognize that in himself until he had already sunk well beyond the breaking point post-concert, and the Mist engulfs him that very night, when he’s alone with only his thoughts. You can even see SpongeBob beginning to experience that distortion just as Patrick came to talk to him. It’s a faint and eerie presence throughout the conversation, but it’s definitely not the oppressive Red Mist we saw earlier. Maybe that’s because SpongeBob’s getting the care and support he needs in that moment. A mental health crisis isn’t always as apparent from the outside as it is to the one suffering. That’s why it’s so important to check in if you start to see that something’s wrong. Even a small conversation, or a hug, or a thoughtful gesture can change everything. Y’all stay safe out there and be well tonight. Remember that you never have to suffer alone.

Hearing the spongebobs voice when he discovers squidward with his head blown to bits and the sirens (which in fact many medical sources state that sound is the last thing you can detect before your brain stops functioning) is what really hit me the most. It's really hard to imagine how suicide victims felt when they hear the screams of their family members discovering their loved one died. When this first came out, unironically when I watched this video, it stopped me from doing it and I got the help I needed. Like you say, you never have to suffer alone. Mental health is serious.

@@mytoasteroven2402 how can you tell that the Red Mist is a terrible state of mentality instead of an actual force or event or entity when you literally have a Squidward-like, pale entity that could represent Squidward’s humiliation and the suffering from his humiliation in the part where Squidward’s mentality and body was deteriorating in his bedroom and the part where 3 distorted, horrifying entities appear in the very end of this episode with whom one of them looks like Squidward and possibly represents the Red Mist? I mean, yes, the Red Mist means a fit of intense anger that temporarily clouds a person’s judgement in real life, but how would it be a state of mind in Squidward’s case when clearly there was a Squidward-like, pale entity in Squidward’s bedroom and a scary entity with the other two in the end of this episode who looked like Squidward and probably might’ve represented Squidward’s suffering and Red Mist? And besides, it looks like in this case, Squidward’s Red Mist PERMANENTLY clouded his judgement instead of just temporarily doing it.
@sean..L Жыл бұрын
To me it is real despair. Not mere hopelessness but black, malefic death. The pitfall of Squidward's life reached it's grizzly terminus and he saw distorted visions of himself, dark reflections and demons haunted him. It was the crushing weight of his hopes and dreams come to haunt him in a waking nightmare.

I teared up at Spongebob blaming himself for what happened, the conversation at the end was genuinely heartwarming and bittersweet, and I loved that you kept Patrick in character with him forgetting what he just said. This was beautiful and did the original story *so much* justice. I especially love how you referenced the dead children photos in a way that naturally fit into the story, rather than just being slapped on there for cheap shock value. I also love how the concert scene didn't overstay it's welcome while still being able to show how devastating it was for Squidward.

This is what red mist could have been. This feels way more scarier then the actual Creepypasta it’s self. The fact the unfinished animation and voice acting makes it more creepy and so uncanny. It reminds a lot of the analog that this decade is going through. There’s more detail. I feel like this is similar to the sonic.exe situation where someone made it an entire analog series off of it. And it was actually good. This is really good.

Red mist: A maroon/blood red mist that appears to certain individuals, most of them being a sea creature, or an unidentified humanoid. Activation: If a creature were to wish to see this, they would have to actively make their life a living hell. They would need severe depression, anxiety, and to add onto this, they would need to lose their ego, someone who believes they're worthless before a life-changing/threatening event would never be attacked by RM. Side Effects/Stage one: the individual would develop a "second brain" Figuratively, as they would be able to have 2 thought processes, before RM takes over. The RM brain, or RMB will actively tell the host to kill themselves, people who have gone to this, prefer to call it "Stage one", this is the easiest to survive, but also the hardest to get through. Stage 2: RM host (RMH) will begin developing hallutionations of their loved ones talking down to them, or their family members abusing them, RMB will tell RMH that they should stop trying, and to give in. Survivors indicate that their eyesight goes vermillion red, as if they watched paint dry. Stage 3: RMH starts seeing hallucinations of them killing themselves in multiple horrendous ways, *[POSSIBLE TRIGGER WARNING]* (seperation!!) They differ from: hanging, slitting own throat, snapping own neck, to shooting themselves with nearby weapons, to starvation. *[Okay, you can keep reading :)]* Survivors report seeing this 3 days after the attack Phase 4: RMB will attempt to act like RMH's original brain, and will make RMH start thinking they will do it. This is the easiest stage, as RM is starting to give in. Phase 5: RMB will begin to actively take over RMH's brain, this is the hardest and final stage. The only way to survive is to actively get rid of every possible danger, there is no confirmed way to survive without going to a nearby lab or hospital, this process will happen throughout the course of multiple days, depending on their original mental status (five hours if they had a LOW mental status, 5 weeks if they had a moderate mental status.) Confirmed survivors: Krabs, Plankton, OMJ 5 Confirmed Victims: "Mr." Krabs, Plankton, Squidward Q. Tentacles, Old man Jenkins #5-7, Zim Confirmed Deaths: Squidward Q. Tentacles (Phase 3, miserable life.), OMJ 6 & 7(Phase 5, Dementia.) Zim: Presumed dead, phase 4, he ran away upon figuring out that he'd have to go to a human hospital, in fear of what they'd do to him. His assistant had signed him in, fearing what could come of his master. Most survivors end up A. Going missing B. Living along with others or C.Facing RM again. Those who are dead never actually kill themselves, they join the red mist, and act as if nothing is wrong, with the small amount of sanity being used to warn others of the red mist. It is possible to save someone from the red mist, however it is extremely difficult, and relies on luck. The items required to save someone, is 20 candles, 2 lighters (or a magnifying glass) a pentagram, and finally *[REDACTED INFORMATION.]*

The music that plays during "A Certain Conversation" is so damn good. It makes the scene feel a lot more touching.
A thing I like is how his.. uh.. Self Die, to put it "nicely", Seems to be caused by the red mist. He seemed to still be upset by the failed concert, but he didn't overreact nor care that much. He was down, but not fucking suicidal just from some boo-ing. Another thing, though, I like how it has this fine blend of Authentic Spongebob Vibes, and Horror, all without ruining the horror. Like, It starts goofy, and it gradually gets more and more into the Horror side of things, Even when Squidward was walking around his room at night, It had the goofy walk sound.

5:49 which is the start of "A Certain Conversation" hits different. We've all experienced loss or heartbreak and I think this section speaks a lot for the aftermath of events like these. I remember when I heard about the death of family and especially one of my old friends and I didn't know how to feel or cope initially since it's such a devastating blow to your life and it can be hard to accept as fact. We only appreciate what we've lost and it's hard to talk about it. Just talking to somebody about it can change your life for the better.

This is so sad, the fact the SpongeBob yelled out is name. This is proof that suicidal thoughts, and having horrible mental health can lead to suicide. Now seeing this, the Red Mist seems to be a sort of "wave of suicides". The Red Mist also reminds me of an effect some toxic algeas have on the ocean by releasing a red compound. Despite how it may seem I feel like the lack of animation kinda ads to the nature of this recreation of Red Mist. The stagnation of the video itself helps add to not only the tone but the atmosphere, and it helpes alot in turning such a mid-creepypasta into a masterpiece. This is probably the best recreation of Red Mist, and redeemed most of the creepypasta to me, and for that. I say thanks.

My personal favorite part is the complete rework of Spongebob and Patrick's role in the creepypasta. like that you took out the part of Spongebob and Patrick booing Squidward, that was the most out of character thing in the original one. In my head, a better take on that scene, is that Spongebob and Patrick actually stand up on the Humilliation part, clapping and cheering for Squidward, giving him a bit of hope, only to the crowd to, not leave, but beat up Spongebob and Patrick until leaving them unconcious, this taking a toll later on Squidward, taking the blame and feeling even more depress because his only two friends who actually supported him got beat up only for standing for him. the thing about mental illness is that it makes it literally incomprehensible to think that somebody could love you. and sometimes, having depression is like having your soul skinned constantly. no ammount of love can save you from the pain that chemical imbalance causes. understanding that people are there doesnt always help. remember, if someone in your life commits suicide, the victim isnt you. it was them. they didnt do this to hurt you. they did it because they genuinely believed youd be better off if they were gone.
