Glad you’re back reacting to PTX. I enjoy hearing your reaction from a DJ’s point of view. Their album “PTX vol. 4 Classics” has older songs on it. They are all great especially Elvis’s “Can’t help Falling in Live with You”.

Scot, Mitch and Kirsty were 19 years old here. Avi and Keven early 20s. Just beginning

This one was very early in their career! They included part of it in an "evolution of Pentatonix" that they did in some of their 2019 concerts and the 2022 Hollywood Bowl concert. They are currently taking some well-deserved downtime after a crazy touring schedule from Christmas 2022 through Christmas 2023. I think there will be some new things later in the year. They had 3 concerts in California early in June, and they premiered a 7-8 minute long "Evolution of Taylor Swift" at those concerts. I assume we'll get a studio version of that at some point! But for now, Kevin and his wife just welcomed their 2nd child, a son, in June. Matt and his wife are expecting their first this month, in July. Kirstin and Ben got married in April. Scott and Mark published a children's book in May, and Scott has been putting out a variety of solo singles. Mitch has been with a partner since about a year ago, and since January has been spending the majority of his time in Berlin with him. So they've been busy, but with catching up on their own personal lives! There was 1 picture of 4 of them in the studio that Scott has in his new house, so clearly they are continuing to work on new things, just not at the frenetic pace of the past few years!

Loved your reaction, as always! This was from their very early days as a group, after they won the Sing-Off but evidently before they has a stylist on board. Ben Bram has been a key to their arrangements since the very beginning as he worked with them on the TV competition show where they started, but I think they have evolved their own arranging skills over the years too. Did you know that the Grammies actually changed one of their categories to include vocal music the year they won Best Arrangement for their Daft Punk medley? That’s the kind of recognition they deserve, honestly. As for recording something older, they did a version of It’s Been a Long, Long time but there doesn’t seem to be a video for it. You can see them rehearsing it in their Recording Evergreen mini-documentary (which was a Christmas album, sorry.) There’s also a segment on how they work out their body percussion elements that was cool. It’s about 20 minutes long if you want to take a look. Peace …

In their current summer tour dates, they've been doing an Evolution of Taylor Swift, which is a brand-new "Evolution of..." medley - so they are doing something similar to this with their current skill sets, although it's only for Taylor Swift songs. No official video yet, but a number of fan-cam videos of it are making the rounds of KZbin. As for a 10-minute PTX video remake of this - while you and I might appreciate that, they've never done any videos that are anywhere near that long, with the exception of The Wizard of Ahhhs with Todrick Hall, and it's still less than 7 minutes long, shot over several days. And they've never gone back and re-visited anything once they've done it, as far as I know. So I think you're probably out of luck with that wish.

Interestingly, years after this video was done, solo Avi did covers of two of the songs they did here back-to-back -- "Hey Ya!" and "Crazy". "Hey Ya!" was done in 2017 when he was still in PTX, and it was done under his real name, Avriel & The Sequoias, with 3 good friends backing him. He takes a country/bluegrass spin to it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZmlgnahnauqj8k Then, in 2019 he hooked up with friends ReSound to do a special version of Gnarles Barkeley's "Crazy". kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoO3eX9na9edbpI

I swear I have watched you react to those before or I'm a freaking clairvoyant.

I can see what you mean, but I still love this one! I don't know if July is a sensible time to suggest this 🤣, but about six months from now would be a good time to do Peter Hollens' Evolution of Christmas Songs...

Thanks for the reaction. Check out the evolution series. The evolution of Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Ariana Grande and Rihanna

Their evolution songs are recorded in one take. 10 minutes would be unreasonable, and the way people listen to music, it also wouldn't be listened to. The have done a bunch of different evolution songs, and a lot of new stuff that isn't Christmas too.
