Looks like chimney top. Hiked down with my three young boys and camped just down from the fork. Lots of trout which was cool to see the stocking program thriving

Super cool video. That copper head was a big one. Did Landon build a big fire. Looks like you liked your tent. Glad you guys had a peaceful and relaxing camping trip. 😃😃👍👍

Many of these sites are in the RRG, they are easy to find if you follow a creek up stream from where a trail crosses it. You will many times find yourself in a quiet holler all to yourself.

I’ve found myself many times on a trail by myself in the gorge even on busier weekends. The gorge is by far one of my favorite places to visit.

Great campsite, and there is no better Gorge Guide than Backpacking with Jason. That was a copperhead you saw along the trail wasn't it? I see them a bit around in Missouri, but not seen one at The Gorge yet, but then, you need to keep a sharp eye to see them at all, heh. Thanks for sharing your adventure!

Ron Mueller I can’t agree with you more, he is very knowledgeable and probably one of the nicest most down to earth people. I’ve seen a few copperheads are the gorge but not to many. How’s the hiking in Missouri? Been looking for new places to explore.

@@JasonHelmandollar The hiking in the Missouri Ozarks is excellent. Very Southern Illinois is not bad. Clear rivers with gravel bars and huge springs. Nice bluffs and caves. If you ever want to come out this way, I'd be glad to host you and show you around.
@JasonHelmandollar4 жыл бұрын
Ron Mueller man I was actually just thinking about Illinois also. I’m trying to figure out a place to go next weekend for a trip cause I’m getting ready to have surgery and will be out of commission for 3 months so I wanted to get one last trip in before then.

@@JasonHelmandollar This coming weekend looks a little cold and wet, Saturday, but the garden of the Gods is always a great place to check out, and working from a base camp is possible. I am open most every weekend.

nice spot, the spot on the pinch em tight trail is a nice place too. ive been to the camp where your at. i have lived only 10 mins from the gorge my entire life. down in that split rock there is a 1975 RC cola bottle. LOL

First off I love the name, second I’m so jealous you live so close. With as crowded as the gorge gets and most backpacking places in general anymore it’s nice to have some hidden gems just for you. Maybe I’ll run into you sometime while I’m down there.
@Yelnats1013 жыл бұрын
@@JasonHelmandollar yeah I love living so close to it. I’m up there about 2 or 3 days a week doing something. First camp date is set for April 2 Wettelton camp ground. I think that’s how is spelled. No ULA?
@JasonHelmandollar6 жыл бұрын
Oh yea I still got it, gonna pick up an inflatable sleeping pad so it will fit in the pack and I’m gonna use the ula again. Only using the osprey cause I can strap the fold out pad under the lid.

Jason Helmandollar I have and use the Talon 44, would you say the CDT is more comfortable and better for over nighters?
@JasonHelmandollar6 жыл бұрын
For me even with the lack of any type of suspension on the ula it carries the weight I carry and is more comfortable than my osprey. I do love all the pockets where I can sort my stuff out on the osprey where as the ula is limited outside of the body.
@theanimalspike16 жыл бұрын
Jason Helmandollar I was gonna go for the Zpacks Nero but think I will get he CDT! Your video on it is what helped add the CDT to the selection.
