A new place to check out in The Gorge. Turtle Back was on the list already, and now the still made the list. Thanks for sharing your adventure! 😎

The last time I visited the still was long ago as a boy scout. Thanks for including it. Your route to Turtleback is the less difficult of the two. The hike in from that pull-off is a bit hard to follow in spots, and requires some scrambling down a couple drops. While it doesn't have the vistas, Swift Camp Creek is my favorite trail in the RRG. Doesn't seem to get nearly as much traffic as the more popular areas Thanks for taking us along.

I think it’s less traveled because the northern end is fairly rugged and then people also don’t know of the ‘hidden gems’ near it. Thanks for watching Rod!

Thanks for showing the way to the moonshine still, Dustin. I found it about 40 years ago. I've gotten back to exploring the Gorge since retiring, and was wanting to get up to see if it was still there.

How did it look then compared to now?
@admay3162 жыл бұрын
From the video, it looked exactly the same as I remember it. Back then, I got all my info from a book called "Kentucky's Land of the Arches". As I recall, that book also made note that the still had been filled with cement.

Now that you’ve mentioned it, I think that is where I got that the still remnants had been filled with concrete! Great book, I’m sure it was one of few sources of info back in the day. Pretty easy hike to the still. Hope the video helps in your adventures, thanks for watching!

I went hiking today and made my way up to the moonshine still. It was much easier than I remember from 35+ years ago. How do you get to the base of Pooch's Turtle Falls?
@ExploringWithDRob Жыл бұрын
Just before you get to the falls you’ll see a user trail cutting down toward the creek. There’s a scramble down there, where there’s usually a rope for the most direct way down. A somewhat easier way down is about 100yds before you reach the falls. You’ll see a break in the cliffline going down towards the creek, you just work your way down some rocks and tree roots then follow the edge of the creek up to Pooch’s.

Lots of foam in the water that day. The ‘golden color’ was from hotspots where the sun was lighting up the bottom of the creek. Sure is, original parts from an old still. That’s the elevation where sandstone occurs and over many years that’s how the weather has formed the sandstone. Sandstone is pretty awesome. Thanks for always checking out the page and watching!

With that accent, you have to be from Eastern, Ky? My mother is from Perry County. Great video, I enjoyed the moonshine still. Never knew it was there. Thanks for the upload. New Subscriber!!

I have a love hate relationship with the Gorge. I think it sucks that it is so poorly marked in places and with all the "unofficial trails." I usually just drive all the way to Big South or the Smokies. The Gorge is beautiful, but it could be so much more. I often get up at 4 am, drive to the Smokies or Big South, hike all day and drive home at night. I just find it more enjoyable, even with the burden of the drive. You do great videos though, and I appreciate them. I've taken a couple of specific hikes because of your work.

Most of the ‘good stuff’ tends to be off trail in RRG. Unlike BSF and the Smokies, RRG ain’t a park, it’s just part of the Daniel Boone National Forest. So that’s one reason why there’s only a certain amount of official trails. What is there seems to be more than the forest service can maintain as it is, that’s even with a volunteer trail crew. There’s a lot of cool stuff to see in RRG if you get tired of making those long drives tho! I appreciate that, thanks for watching!
