Hi Elley. I'm glad you enjoyed the hike through my backyard ! I've seen many petroglyphs in the area, but not those. Amazing !! Yes, chert is abundant in the area. Found a few arrowhead fragments years ago. The Keystone is actually a reverse thrust fault. Older limestone is on top of the range. Higher you climb, the smaller and fewer fossils become. Thanks for taking us on your journey ! 😊

You just have to make a reservation…October through May…big part of it is that there is not a lot of parking available although they are trying to make more…so people are parking on the side of the road and driving on the desert plants killing them and some other causes for limiting people in the conservation area…so now on they’re placing mini boulders on the side of the road…Please be respectful!!

I feel like anyplace with red rocks is mostly restricted or regulated like Sedona. Such cool geology there.

It's always fun to go there. Loved the peanut gallery asking questions. It was a really good narrative on the geology of the area. I also like the area north of Pahrump. Keep having fun and teaching along the way. I think this is one of your better ones.

Hi Elley, I really enjoyed this video. I just started exploring this area, and I am baffled by the geology of it. Although You correctly described the agreed upon theory of when and how this place got created, I’ve found many pieces of evidence that don’t conform to this scenario. Actually there is such a variety of weird rocks, conglomerates, crystals and sequences of layers, that tells me, that we know nothing about the true events that left the landscape in such a mangled condition.

What was the mechanism that caused the dramatic change in iron content in those dunes? Where did all that iron come from?
@jaysilverheals4445
@jaysilverheals4445 7 ай бұрын
the initial root color of the blowing sand is whitish being tiny silicon dioxide-agate. But there was alot of iron rich mica and feldspar and with the blowing and mixing in the root color of the dunes became redish because of a ultra thin layer of oxide on the outside. then with bleaching you get the whitish areas as it encountered or was in a redox front in which that thin outside layers of oxidized material was taking back into solution
