I would love to have Soto on my team but not for ANYWHERE near the money he's looking for or expecting. At 26 I think I would be cool giving him 10 years $250MM. If he was more interested in a high AAV deal I think I would go 5 years $150MM. Nothing over that. He's not a complete player, he's no 5 tool guy, he's no Othani, he's not even a Ronald Acuña Jr or Fernando Tatis Jr. He's got great plate discipline and power but he's slow, doesn't have a great mit, isn't great on the base paths, doesn't have a particularly good arm. His long term profile is Marcel Ozuna. Marcel Ozuna is a GREAT baseball player but he's not worth $600MM or even $400MM. If you sign Juan Soto you are signing a top 10 bat and a minus corner outfielder for 4-5 years. Thats worth $30 million a year max. After that you are going to get Marcel Ozuna. A great bat, triple crown potential even, but a DH with zero speed. That's worth $25 million a year max. Ozuna I think is making $16 Million. Think about it like this. His agent wants a TOP TWO contract in value. Juan Soto in his entire career has had maybe one season where he was even the best player on his own team and that was when he was on a rebuilding Nationals team after Sherzer, Harper and Turner left. His agent is delusional if he thinks he's worth $600M. Im guessing its Boras?
@vicvsvictor26522 ай бұрын
Soto is not those guys and yet Tatis, acuna, Ohtani all have had durability problems before in their careers, Soto has not. As long as he’s average defensively along with that all world bat he’ll be fine.
@kyleOWillFixIt2 ай бұрын
@vicvsvictor2652 That's not the question though. Nobody is saying he isn't "fine". The question is is he one of the greatest baseball players in history, because that's what a $600 Million dollars should get you. The answer is absolutely not. He's not even close to being that.

So I have a question for AJ & Kratz. I’m a Nats fan and have followed Juan Soto his whole(short) career. Nats fans were devastated when he was traded. Soto did not seam happy in SD, but seemed very happy with the Yanks. My question is, if a player’s happy in an organization wouldn’t they want to stay or is it just about the money?

While they are not the clear favorites i dk like the one thing other teams can not offer, making Soto the Face of he franchise... Sox leadership can even make Soto the Captain. I think Breslow and ownership should be aggressive getting a top SP. Either signing Snell or Fried asap while trading Abreu and Rafaela along with whomever for a top prospect arm like Painter with McFarlane and Graves or possibly sending that Duo with Kutter to Pittsburgh for Bubba Chandler and Ashcroft or Solmento. Euery Perez could be targeted with Mayer Montgomery Garcia Brothers or Bies and Romero. Eiery Perez with a gut like Garrett or Weathers allows Biston to go Snell Houck Giolti Bello with either Euery Paintet Bubba and deepen the depth with Graves McFarlane or Ashcroft

I don’t think you guys understand the marketability and revenue Juan Soto generates for a down bad franchise like the Red Sox. Think Big Papi. They’ll make that $600 million and some back no problem.

The Sox have plenty of money and the fan base is 90% baked in even when they are mediocre. That's part of the problem- they found that people keep coming, like an amusement park, when they cut payroll.
@martinbressette42072 ай бұрын
I would add Soto if you could, but I doubt it will happen. He might be the Ted Williams 2.0 here. It would just make it easier to deal more prospects. Roman Anthony is no. 1, and that's great. But so was Andrew Benintendi...

Imo, if they sign Soto and doesn't sign someone like Burns/Fried or trade for Crochet. They're going to be a good team, not a team has a great chance of making the playoffs next year. If they are going to give Soto 6 or 6.5, I rather have them sign Burns, Fried and trade for Crochet and sign Trasco Hernandez.
