I remember hearing about these being the flowers have no foliage when they bloom their leaves die back early in the summer, which is quite fascinating.

Thank you for the informative video. I have always loved having these in my yard growing up but after moving away it has taken me almost a decade to collect a good amount of bulbs. They surprise me from time to time with their blooming cycle. I do not think they like to be moved, it has caused mine to skip a year.

No, but they have alot of sigma and superstition around them in asian culture. In buddhism and shintoism it represents goodbye and rebirth, but also represents death. A lot of cultures have similar symbolism when it comes to flowers. Some of them have direct meaning such as purple bell flowers (Nightshade) others indirect.

I planted some in my yard! It's totally worth it. They only bloom once though as summer turns into autumn, and they don't last long. I enjoy them while they're up.

Hello. We just recently moved to a farm in Southern Mississippi and I keep finding Spider Lily plants around the yard. It's only because I haven't mowed the grass this fall because the grass has stayed short that I found them. Thanks for this video so I know how to get them out of the grass and into my garden.
@aalvarado8263 жыл бұрын
Hello! I was doing a spring clean of my garden area and found over a hundred red spider lily bulbs. Now normally, we see MAYBE 2-5 spider lilys in the fall. So I had no idea there were so many bulbs hiding in there. I want to put them some other place, but since we've never seen more than a few flowers, could this mean those bulbs are not viable? I don't want to put them in the ground if they are sick or something like that. Just to note, I'm in North Texas and my house faces East. Thank you.

I have a question, I hope you can have a suggestion or solution for me, about 2 years ago my grandmother and I found a lycoris radiata flower on the road and we transplanted it but we did not know what it could turn on so it only released some green grasses but No flower, what could be happening? What do you recommend me to do and how long does it take to transplant it again? Or if I have to water it daily or not?, Please I need your help ☺️
@chriswiesinger3 жыл бұрын
Hi Maricruz! Red spider lilies are notorious for not blooming after they've been transplanted for the first 1 to 2 years. Once they are established, they should start blooming reliably. You really don't need to water them. They grow in the winter and normally have plenty of natural rain fall. However, if you are in a really dry area, you might consider giving them water as they grow during the winter. They need full winter sun (that is when their foliage is up) and let their foliage die down naturally in the spring. Leave in the ground all year long though. I hope that helps!

I got red spider lily seeds, but then after a while I realized that the picture looks more like a tiger lily, just not the Japanese one. It also came in 4 colors,red,white,purple and pink, so I’m supposing they are some kinda specie. I tried planting them a while ago but they took too long to grow so I forgot about them like would they even grow?

one big question i live in poland and in winter temperature sometimes fall below zero to -10 degrees Celsius, should I dig them out for this season?
@chriswiesinger8 ай бұрын
You would have to dig these up every year. Because red spider lilies are apt to NOT bloom for a couple years after they’ve been dug and transplanted, I think it’s probably best to try some other type of fall-blooming bulb for blooms that time of year. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but it would be a lot of work and the reward might not be there.

Hello, what kind of root system do these plants have? Could they be planted under a tree? (Specifically a Kwanzan Cherry Blossom tree)
@nikushim66653 жыл бұрын
They are a general bulb flower (Amaryllidaceae family) from what i remember, so not huge. You could grow several in a single 3 gallon pot. Just depends on how established/dense your tree roots are but they shouldn't have much issue, outside of climate and soil.
@ravenbishop52323 жыл бұрын
@@nikushim6665 They will do fine under trees. They bloom while most trees are starting to lose their leaves. They start to come up to bloom around September.

Hi is the red spider Lilly able to re populate itself?
@Toastyclouds Жыл бұрын
Yep! They are able to reproduce by itself
@kellybrumfield80932 ай бұрын
Yes. Eventually the bulbs will grow bigger & baby bulbs will grow attached to the old bulb. If your lilies have gotten too crowed in their space they will stop blooming & need to be separated & replanted.

As soon as you get them! Their favorite place to be is in the ground. :) They might skip their bloom the first year they’re planted, but then you’ll be able to enjoy them for many years to come!

Hello! I've never in my life planted flowers and I want to grow some red spider lilies for my mothers grave. It's still a fresh grave so I started with a little pot at home where I planted 3 bulbs. So 2 questions here: 1. will they be fine in the pot and 2. can I replant them on the grave? Thanks in advance.

Hi, can grow red spider lily (lycoris radiata) in a tropical climate in our Philippines can pots or container?
@chriswiesinger3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alma...I think you would struggle in a tropical climate. The yellow spider lilies do better for us along the Gulf Coast here in the Southern United States (Lycoris aurea). They would probably be better suited for you. However, most spider lilies don't like to be in pots. You would get foliage but they would not bloom reliably. They need a dormancy period as well, and that can be hard to manage in pots. They are better suited for the garden. Hope that helps!
