I’m glad he did this interview. So many garbage critics were criticizing the actors as having no chemistry before the movie was even released. “Just because you’re hot doesn’t mean you can act.” They actors blew it out of the water. Director knew EXACTLY what he was doing. Great movie.

@@svenheimes2494 I was dubious at first when I saw the names of the actors chosen, but the proof of the pudding was in the acting ! In another YT comment I mentioned Edvin and Omar (Wille and Simon fro young Royals) should have won a Nobel Prize in chemistry. Well, the Swedish twinks have found their match with Nick and Taylor. And those voices….😜.

We know because of the book how things end. (Spoiler for some, maybe? 🚨) The depression, moving in together, Alex new job, Henry trying to decorate their new place and learning how to cook lol, marriage... I mean, there's material. They just need to finish developing it.

I've been saying since the movie first aired that whoever, (whether that is Matthew alone or a committee), did the casting for this movie should win an academy award for casting alone. Not only is this a wonderful, delightful, and fun movie to watch, but every single actor became their character. Not just Alex and Henry, which are pure perfection themselves, but Zarah, President Claremont, Henry's siblings right down to his baby sister, and Stephen Frye as the king. Every actor was chosen perfectly which made the experience of this film all the better because you believed every single character was the real person they were playing. I find that is not always the case. I don't think this was luck Matthew Lopez...I think this was real talent all unto itself to find the perfect character for every single role. No one was left out in this film. My new favorite movie of all time.

I love this movie!!! I have watched it 4 times in 1 day and I cannot stop. The book and the movie are great. The chemistry between Nick and Taylor is off the charts!!! I laughed, I cried. Everytime I watch it I see more details and nuances that I missed. The love making scene was perfection!!! Never seen anything like that before. ❤️ I have now seen it 14 times! It just gets better and better!!! ❤❤❤

For me, this film is SO EXCITING. Having come out in May 1968, younger generations might not comprehend fully the impact this film has on us "older" folk! Taylor Perez and Nick Galitzine are a perfect pairing. Thank you so much for producing this "masterpiece"! //Vincent//

It was supreme casting !!! The natural chemistry here is almost unmatched

Perez and Galitzine are wonderful in this film. Much has been said about their chemistry, which is palpable. But neither actor has shown as much heart or honesty in their other work. The difference is the sensitivity of the creative team. Director Matthew Lopez and cinematographer Stephen Goldblatt give them a glowing jewel box to inhabit. With the addition of the intimacy coordinator, Robbie Taylor Hunt, the intensity of the characters' relationship materializes on screen. You sense that there was pride and love coming from all departments and that that provided a platform which allowed the two lead actors to become two lead characters that make us laugh and cry and love them. Cynics have attacked the film for not being what they want or think it should be, but that is short-sighted. The achievement of RW&RB is that it is completely what it sets out to be -- a smiling act of hope and love.

The fact that the director is willing to drop the show if he wouldn't find the best suited actors for 2 of the most important characters in the film. You already know this is gonna be good. And I thought making a film should always have this struggle. Because every cristism goes back to the director and Matthew-knowing the genius he is refuses to join the list of directors who failed to do their job well. So he's like we better find the best Alex and Henry or the show isn't happening 😂 One thing I've learned from this fact- Trust a genius' process. Listen to them and let them work no matter how long it takes. God, I guess this is why it's impossible for me to move on from this film. Congratulations to the entire cast. Everyone did such a great job from the actors to them working behind the camera. Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine just become icons because the director was so passionate. Everything is chef's kiss!!! 🍒👌

The casting definitely could make or break this project, the boys are a vital part of the story and if not the right actors this would've felt so flat. As rwrb book reader, I actually never pictured them as real people, never liked any fancasting either, they were just these little people that existed in my mind... But in the first scene in the movie that we are presented to them, it just fit so well! They are Alex and Henry! It's just right, and I can even explain why. That's why I'm so I love with this movie.

Love the movie as a straight girl. The actors are amazing. The chemistry was excellent . I also noticed that some other actors in the cast...Uma Thurman (Henry & June), and Sarah Shahi (The L Word), played gay charaters in movies and TV series. It would be interesting to know his choice behind that. I just love seeing love. My niece watched the movie too and loved it. I asked my niece, who is Gen Z, if her generation is accepting of movies like this...if they care if the actors are gay or not. She said it is 50/50. I told her my generation was a hard core no, unless you were a gay man or just open minded. So the tide is changing. ❤ Great job.

I love this movie! I loved its tempo that discards from the script stuff in the book not important to the telling of the story. I love the two main leads and the entire supporting cast, whose roles and acting made the movie rich and grown up. (Hell, I almost jumped to attention when Stephen Fry as King James burst into the castle meeting room with a bang in an effort dissuade grandson, Henry, from coming out. Like so many others, James wanted to protect the Monarchy from embarrassment , not support Henry.) But I write to bring Alex's convention speech in your script to President Biden's SOTU speech yesterday, 3/7/2024. In your movie, Alex says at the Democratic Convention: "ALEX: My mom has inspired me every day of my life. She has passed down to me a faith in America that always looks to the future, not back at the past. Her vision for America has you at the center. - Your hopes, your values, your future. - (crowd cheering) Those words resemble President Biden's "we do it for you" remarks last night. I choked up then and I choke up now as Biden and Alex tell their respective audience what really matters, why politicians do what they do: The do it: FOR YOU, MATTHEW, FOR ME AND MY 6 GRANDCHIDREAN AND FOR GENERATIONS YET UNBORN FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE UNTED STATES. No less authority than Jesus Christ makes service to others the centerpiece of his life. Retribution, hate is nowhere mentioned.
