Dotting the 'i's' and crossing the 't's' may be necessary for the Paris bedroom scene as it is such a searing, heartfelt and vulnerable scene, but truth to tell, all three Paris scenes are milestones. Henry explaining what he is officially and trying to say what Alex means to him in the cafe; Alex realising that there is the Henry in his role as a Prince in armour and the Henry Fox beneath that in the garden....and then the open and heartfelt Henry in the privacy of their room; all major milestones in character development and setting a new standard of filmic openness with a quiet and simple earnestness. And beyond that, the simplest and most essential truth of all - that this is such an effective love story it doesn't matter at all, or be even particularly noticeable, that this is a genuine love story and romance between two men. And therein lies all the beauty and all the iconic leap of faith and love at the heart of Red White And Royal Blue.
