I don't have rabbit poop , but I was out walking and came across some deer poop that reminded me of rabbit so I gathered some and gave it to my African Night crawlers they loved it. An hour after i gave it to them they were swarming it. So i grabbed a bread bag and gathered a pound of deer poop while looking for antler sheds, I fed all my worm bins and the Red wigglers loved the new food also.

I sprinkle a little compost over the worm chow or pulverized vegetable scraps and the lightly spray it with water. I don’t use anything but finished compost (I make my own so i know there are no chemicals in it) for bedding which I find so much better than adding news paper. Also, I use a two gallon pump sprayer. So much easier. You worms look healthy and happy!😊
@TheGardenAndWormLady2 жыл бұрын
I would love to do that also but I would have to wait to raise my worms in the garage or an outdoor shed. The compost at least the way I make it in the yard here has too many insects at least too many to bring inside my house. You have a great method. I have a 4 gallon sprayer that’s battery operated but I am need to charge it😄 that is one of the best investments I’ve had. The machine is a beast🤣

I love my 2 gallon pump sprayer! I have 2, one for worm/compost tea and one for weed spray. I recently brought the tea one inside to use, a spray bottle was just killing my hands! My spray bottle now holds molasses water to spray on the chow. Got that idea from the channel with the kids you talked about a while back. The chow is always gone in a day now, not a speck to be seen. Guess they like the molasses!

My worms LOVE rabbit pellets! I get them from a lady who raises rabbits for show. Sad to say they all got a respiratory virus and she had to give them medication that will hurt the worms. Now I’m using Guinea Pig droppings. They like them a lot but not like the rabbit droppings. I usually just mix it in the bedding when I get a bin ready to go. They seem to adjust faster with it vs without it. I love that there is no smell and it doesn’t get hot. Just my 2 scents… 😂 I’ve been using under cabinet strip lights on my shelves. They work well, don’t use much electricity and also cost less to run than other lights. Generally those only stay on for a few days after I’ve set up a bin or have mixed up the bedding (1x a week), otherwise they stay off at night with no escapes…knock on 🪵!

🤣 i’m glad you gave me your opinion on the lights. That’s really going to help me. I used to never leave the light on either when I just had a few towers and they were my pets but this is different. I can’t risk a mass exit🤣

@@TheGardenAndWormLady I totally get that it’s different when your running a large business. So glad my information could help out. I got my lights at Wallymart for $3/10 feet and they work really well, no issues this far. They used to be used in the kitchen until my DH put some real lights in. I think they are about $5 now. You can buy connection pieces to create 90* corners and such. I think they are called strip lights. Best of luck! Electric costs are nuts now days! Ours went up by 23% on Monday…time to hang dry all the clothes again to offset the increase! I don’t mind hanging them though, forces me to slow down for a few mins 😉

Im having trouble distinguishing the difference between Grow Out Bins and Breeder Bins. Are they the same thing? And then nursery is for generating cocoonsv
@TheGardenAndWormLady2 жыл бұрын
The grow out bins are bins that you put a Adult Worms in so they can start expanding. I also call them breeder bins because I often catch the worms breeding in them and laying cocoons. The giant nurseries are for them to grow up in and also reproduce. I can give the nurseries veggie and fruit scraps

Does anyone have a link to any information on baby wiggler hatchlings? I got a nursery set up and I've noticed some empty cocoons. BUT im seeing some tiny translucent worms under the bread im using for bait. Cant tell if they are pot worms or baby reds and I don't wanna scoop them out and toss them incase they are baby reds, but if they are pot worms then ill toss them. Just can't seem to find any good solid straightforward info on baby red hatchlings..
@ericcarve44762 жыл бұрын
Between you and I, a few pot worms aren’t going to hurt anything. Don’t risk killing your new baby red wigglers
@TheGardenAndWormLady2 жыл бұрын
I’m here to give you the straight forward because I know what it’s like to feel frustrated and nobody answer your question directly. The little white translucent worms are pot worms. They don’t hurt the worm bin at all they come naturally and they are part of the composting world. Baby worms will be a very light pink in color. You might not see them sometimes because when they are born they are so teeny😊 I think they’re adorable. I hope that helps if you have any other questions just reach out to me☺️
@brookeonyx62712 жыл бұрын
Sometimes my baby worms just stay towards the middle or bottom corners of my nursery bins, rarely do they come up to the food scraps early on, once they get a bit larger they will come up to the food. They are hard to spot since they seem to blend in with the bedding. I get pot worms sometimes but leave them be unless they get to be too many, then a sprinkle of DE lowers the population by a lot, it won’t harm the baby worms at all.
@___Aaron___2 жыл бұрын
@@TheGardenAndWormLady its a better answer then I could find trust me.. one place was sayin baby reds were pink.. other place said they were completely red.. the another place said they were translucent with a slight shade of pink.. the info is all over the place about what color baby reds are haha.. im not worried about the pot worms. I just didn't wanna lure baby reds out with bread and thinking they were pot worms and toss them out by accident haha. Kinda defeats the purpose of my cocoon nursery inside my castings lmfao. I'll just give my castings a long enough rest for the baby reds to get more color so I can single them out from the pot worms.. probably the best thing for me to do.. but thank you for the straight forward understandable answer.. lol. Love the videos and thank you for your time.. cheers

@@brookeonyx6271 remember that DE only works to reduce pests when it is dry, and it targets bugs that have exoskeletons by puncturing their shell which dries them out.
