I really appreciate you making this particular video. I was hoping to find proper bin set up instructions and you were my first stop. This is why you're my go to guy for all things worm related! Thanks again!

it’s totally crazy that i can spend hours watching worms. I have a hard time keeping my hands out of mine. The guy I bought from started my bin with 170! That’s it so it takes a while with only a bit of food to get it broken down but i love watching the process. Not to mention the castings that come from it. Thanks for doing the videos! I too LOVE the time laps. Keep them comin.

You have so many worms you could have made that been have 10,000 worms.. but I am so glad you kept it at around 1200. This about what your average person starts a worm bin with. So it will be great to watch that bin grow.. very good idea.

I just prepared a new bin i used a 2.5 gallon bucket how long should i leave it for?
@A-V4 жыл бұрын
Good question. I don't know if there's some optimal number of days; I suppose a few days, at least, would be best. Perhaps even a couple weeks If there's enough lead time to prepare that far in advance. Perhaps someone who has a more scientific answer will jump in to provide clearer guidance. Thanks for watching!

So excellent. I love worms now. I want to do this, but don't have any consistent cool place. Can they be moved inside and outside depending on the season? I don't really expect a response, as its years later that I'm watching this, but maybe! thanks for making this video.
@A-V2 жыл бұрын
On occasion when I transport worms from being outside to being indoors, I find that I also bring in the eggs & larva of insects that I might not necessarily want in my house. When it happens it is usually manageable - but its something to be aware of if you decide to do it too. Thanks for watching!

Hi, thanks for the tutorial. Can these worms survive on soil of a veg garden? Can the whole tub of compost be put in a new or existing veg bed to kickstart nutrients and bio activity etc? Thanks
@A-V2 жыл бұрын
What I have heard is that composting worms will generally not do well in garden soil. I'm not entirely certain about that though - so hopefully someone who can say more definitively will jump in & comment. Thanks for watching!

where do you get these gray bins from?!
@A-V2 жыл бұрын
Funny you should ask - because I'm on my way out the door & I'm going over to the Restaurant Depot to pick up a few since they are on sale this month for $3.99US. That's where I have gotten them the past few times, and there was also one occasion when I found them at Costco. I also have links in my video description & in my pinned comments that will take you to Amazon listings for bus bins (if you shop on Amazon after clicking on one of my affiliate links then I get a small commission at no extra charge to you). Thanks for watching!

@A V thanks alot, I'm from Dubai, so ordering from US Amazon will take few weeks to deliver.. but I think I have no other choice since I was unable to find them here. Thanks for all the content, it has helped me alot learning about worms.. if you have time, make a detailed video about Indian Blue worms, you'll get lot of popularity in the east side of the world 🌎
@A-V2 жыл бұрын
My system in which I have the Indian blue worms had some issues recently & I nearly lost the entire population. Fortunately the small number of worms that survived the die off are now bouncing back nicely. If you see any of my videos in which the title makes reference to my 'mixed red worm population', then that is the population I am referring to. Thanks for watching!

Please help me .. my worms trying to escape whenever I am trying to introduce them into a new bin. Thrice I tried and again I need to shift them into old bin only
@A-V3 жыл бұрын
When you say that your worms are trying to escape, what exactly do you mean? Are they just climbing the walls and crawling on the lid of your closed container? Or are they actually exiting the bin and winding up outside the bin? If they are just crawling up out of the bedding and on the walls then it may be that they are just going after the collecting dampness on the walls of your container - in which case you have noting to worry about.. since that is normal for covered bins. If you provide a cleared description of exactly what the worms are doing then it may be easier to help you diagnose your situation. Thanks for watching!

@@A-V thanks for your great reply.new bin is a 2 weeks older with great moisture but every time I am trying to introduce our old worms into a new bin within few hours they are coming out of the bin in huge numbers and dying also .. this is third time happened with me sir. I am worried about introducing them into a new bin . They are happy with our old bin.
@pranay91103 жыл бұрын
Is it because of new bin is 2 weeks old? So no new fresh food they got ? Is it because of it is summer in india .. my bin is under the shed but it's hot area . Bin has drainage holes and lid holes also. If you want I can share a new set bin pics . Once again thank you sir for your great support. Waiting for your reply.
@A-V3 жыл бұрын
Then it must be the materials that the new bin were made of are repelling the worms. Could it be that the materials are in the process of hot composting?, making the environment too warm for the worms? Or maybe there some sort of chemical (perhaps salt) that's scaring them away? Or maybe a pH imbalance - making it too alkaline or acidic? Sometimes it's tricky to figure out... Good luck with it..........
@pranay91103 жыл бұрын
@@A-Vthanks sir. Yes i couldnt find the reason whats wrong I did. the worm bin is made from thermocol box. New bin has cardboard pieces dry leaves kitchen waste egg shells layered as per u said. And also Drainage and upper lid has plenty of small holes too. should i make a new bin again as per your new bin setting? And how many days later should i introduce old bin worms ?
@peckerwood78011 ай бұрын
How do you keep the worms from crawling out of the tubs? I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong but i don't know.
@A-V11 ай бұрын
People who have covers on their systems are creating a space in which the water vapor from the system is captured - then when it condenses on the walls & lid of the container the worms can't help themselves from crawling out of their bedding in pursuit of the collected water droplets. My systems have no lids - and for that reason, they have dry walls. Basically, the worms check the walls of my bins, find them to be too dry, then they return down into their bedding 👍🏻
