My Red Wing Iron Ranger 8083 Hawthorne Muleskinners are now 10 months old. See how they are holding up as I take them on a hike in the cold, snow and ice.

I own the same and they are shaping up to be a favorite after 6 months....no break-in and a nice patina developing. Still waiting for your 12-month update, brother//all the best troutbumandsam

Love the boots. Love your videos too. You're a natural on camera!

The more beat up they get, the better they look. And they're the easiest Iron Rangers to break in. I've had mine for a month now and there was practically NO break in. My 8111's are extremely comfortable as well. Love my Iron Rangers!!

Enjoying your journey. Timely for me. Just today I tried on 8083s as my first IR touch.

I want to try leather soles. They offer much more comfort and they are more durable than you would think. I have a 2016 amber harness model and it still has the old style nitrile cork sole it's holding up very well but it's a little hard for my liking. So in those wear out I want to put oak bark tanned leather on them. My reasoning for it is my Allen Edmonds dress shoes are my most comfortable pair of footwear by far and they are complete leather from sole to insole. Great aero photography by the way. Keep the videos coming, I am loving them!

Another awesome video! The best part of the 10 month review is we will get the 1 year review soon too 😎 haha. I am also loving my pair, i find myself wearing them to work 3-4 days a week.

Thanks for the kind comments! Glad you are liking your pair. Seems like the more wear the more comfortable.

@@hell0all thanks for the videos. How has the width changed? My RW mocs are EE and fit perfectly. The hawthorne muleskinners are hard to find in wide. Thank you.

Hope all is well! Just checking back to see if there was a new video. It’s ok. I know life is busy. Haha.

I know this is a bit late but I would recommend a leather midsole and a Vibram 700 Tygum in Brown Nitrile Cork. Durable, still grippy, except on moss. Alternatively get a Honey Vibram Lug, it is pretty durable and a bit softer than the traditional V100 Luged Sole. Also after resoling I would recommend Saphir’s Edge Dressing and recolorant. It helps the durability of the edge of the welt and layers, still flexes, seperation, and helps keep water and debris from getting in. If you do use that, I recommend using blue painters tape to have clean lines. You can apply with a gloved finger, a makeup sponge(wedge, I stole from my sister), or apply with a cheap small paint brush. Two thin coats is better than a thick slab of it. Think of polishing floors. As for comfort with the break in? Darn Tough socks, otherwise it makes me wonder if you are sized right? You do look correct to me. You can always message Ron Rider, especially take photos before a resole bottoms and tops. Guy is amazing when it comes to sizing and could tell you more than I can.

@@hell0all You're welcome, I especially can't recommend Darn Tough Sock's enough! I do recommend their medium weight hiker(boot cut), it doesn't add much volume. Or over the calf western(light weight for summer) or over the calf Paul Bunyan(medium weight and extra cushion in the toe box). Alternatively with winter upon us the Mountaineer or Hunter are good socks. Just a word of caution they are thick! Heavy wool socks made for winter. They might be overkill but seeing where you hike they might be a good winter fit if the excess volume doesn't throw the fit off too much! Over the calf has an advantage of acti g like a compression sock and good for excercise activities. Socks Addict tends to run them 20-30% off Black Friday. If you get some I'd order them then. Also go to Darn Tough's site for washing instructions. But true Merino Wool socks are the best purchase I made besides the quality boots themselves! Lastly it would be cool as a review to add to the channel down the road and give your thoughts.

I have the same boot, but with the original smooth sole. I have had them for 6 years now. They are my go to boot. I love them, tho they are not a winter boot by any stretch of the imagination. I have Danner Fort worth for winter. My IR,s will out last me.

I have the IR with the nitrile cork. Those are like glass. I have the mini lug on my work pair and they are fair grippier. That being said, the nitrile cork has worn far less than the mini lug. If you do get a softer sole just expect to change it every year if you wear them every day.

Look at getting a Vibram sole, megagrip if possible. I trail run and hike weekly and I've tried near all compounds on the market and Megagrip works best for me.

Since you wear your boots so often, you might not notice much from boot trees.
@hell0all2 жыл бұрын
I think you are right. Ideal for storage longer than 24 hours. Maybe just draw some moisture out and save the shape a bit. It is nice to have them in there when you clean and brush them though.
@jakobdieckmann2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. For getting moisture out alone, they’re worth it. Especially if you wear your boots daily (which everyone says you shouldn’t).
@crucify402 жыл бұрын
@@jakobdieckmann I've started using trees in all of my boots, however they appear to be shoe, not boot trees. Does it make a big difference? I guess the shoe trees are better than using nothing eh?

lol I suppose everyone has a different idea of comfort. I’ve worn minimal style footwear my entire life so i’m quite comfortable in these. The terrible traction is my problem though. Thanks for watching.

They get comfortable with wear and also they strengthen your feet, walking on cushions all day does more damage than good I the long run
