The NMC isn’t a problem. Marner wants out of Toronto as bad as they want the cap space. Issue will be how little can a team give up knowing he’ll likely hit FA next year. I don’t think any team is willing to pay him like one of the top 5 in the league

Marner has a NTC, so he's only going where he wants to go, which will lower his value. If he says he wants to go to Detroit, then Toronto is pretty screwed unless he puts other destinations with similar assets to give. He also is going to need a contract or walk after next year, which further lowers his value (again, if coming to Detroit). Yzerman can wait it out if Marner really wants Detroit. It would be similar to Debrincat and Ottowa. Marner is more of a "that'd be great to have" than a "we're screwed if we don't do everything to sign him!" There is no reason to trade and arm and a leg for him at this point. Likely, Marner is going to want to go to a contender like Vegas, Carolina, Colorado, or Dallas. Toronto can get more out of those types of teams because they are in "win now" mode and are near cap, so they'd have to shed enough cap via the trade to handle Marner's 10m+.

1. Marner has a NMC 2. He won't choose Detroit 3. It will be a sign and trade to get him an 8th year 4. Leafs won't trade him in the division 5. Most likely traded to the Western conference

unlikely you can do both. 15 is likely to go in any marner deal. or edvinsson, seider, or raymond. 15 and debrincat might do it. whether you should is another matter.
