Good little video - I find a good idea is to wire a 21 watt globe and holder to a 7 pin flat (or whatever plug you use) across 5 and 3. Then use it as a plug in tester which verifies the earth as well. The most common problem seems to be if the seven pin flat is mounted horizontally, the weight of the harness ( often incl heavy power cables etc) wiggling / flexing up and down closes down / collapses the male pin and you get a floating connection - solution is to open up the pins a bit with a small screwdriver. If its a heavy harness I tend to wire the socket vertically down.

Hi guys. Great video. Do Redarc sell a switch insert panel to suit a 2010 Mitsubishi Triton ? Redarc only seems to have a panel to suit Mitsubishi if 2016 or newer

Thanks for watching! You're correct our Triton Suitable Switch Insert is designed for 2016 or newer models. We unfortunately don't have a switch insert for the older models though you could utilise our universal mount (www.redarc.com.au/tow-pro-remote-head-surround-mount). Alternatively, if you refer to our Tow-Pro Installation video, a small hole can be drilled anywhere in your dash to mount the remote head.

I have the same problem. Weak brakes even when the tow pro elite is turned up to 10 in manual mode. The voltage at the trailer (caravan) plug is 10 volts when the the brakes are operating. I don’t know what the voltage is supposed to be. I had road worthy done today for caravan rego and the brakes passed when the test was done with a test battery pack feeding 12 volts into the brake magnets. I will have to get to the cause of the problem it’s not safe This controller has a chequered history. About six years ago I had it fitted to my new Holden Colorado. It didn’t work from the start but I didn’t realise until I went to tow my caravan. After taking it back a couple of times it was discovered the knob was mounted through too thick of material and wasn’t making proper contact when pressed. After this it worked perfectly for years and even saved an accident when swerving to avoid a car running into me the caravan travelling at 90 kph went into a violent sway. I thought I was toast. But as soon as I hit the controller button the caravan straightened up and we survived. Alas recently it stopped working again. The fault code said fault with controller earth. On inspection I found the earth wire loosely fitted to a stud in the firewall under the dash. The stud was also painted with primer. As the instructions state I ran a new earth wire back to the negative side of the battery. I was also shocked to find the controller itself was mounted rather loosely with one cable tie. So that did it from now on I will my own work. After this the fault code went away but I’m having this problem of weak braking hopefully I will get to the bottom of the problem soon.
