I just bought a Brother Boutique 751 at a yard sale and couldn't find a user manual. I don't have much maintenance experience with sewing machines so I was so happy to find your video on KZbin. Not only did you show me the problem so that I could fix it, you also explained maintenance which was a plus! Thank you!!

You are welcome. I have a few other machines I need to shoot videos for, it’s just finding the time.

We have a Brother 791 that seems exactly the same. It's been a while since I last threaded it, so I got the first tensioner wrong, but thanks to you, it's now sewing like after I fixed it!

Hi, I just used W5- 20 engine on my sewing machine and it is so quiet now and it runs like a dream, but use a needle nose squeezer and go easy a few drops goes a long way.

Yes, most of the time noise and smoothness can be enhanced with a bit of oil.

Wonderful video! I just bought this at a barn sale for $19. I haven't tried it out yet. The lady I purchased it from said it works, but runs slow. Any ideas on how to fix it? Thank you.

Sounds like a lubrication issue.

Hi, I just acquired a Brother 781 sewing machine from a friend. It looks like it needs maintenance but I'm not able to find any instruction/ user manuals for it. Please, can you help with some pointers on where to find the manuals, use and maintenance? thank you!

Dig dig dig some more on the internet, you may find a model close enough to your unit.

Is that brother comparable to Sears Kenmore from mid 60s? which one would you like more?
@RedBarnHomestead4 ай бұрын
They can be, but it depends on the model as to who Sears contracted to make their sewing machine.

Is there a place to adjust the thread in the buttonhole. One side does nice and the other doesn't. Thanks for your help Sandy

I have the 431 and I cannot get the clutch knob to loosen up so I can wind the Bobbin. I’ve put wd-40 in the area and used a hair dryer but it hasn’t given yet. Any suggestions?
@RedBarnHomestead Жыл бұрын
Here you can use a bit more force to free things up.

Not off the top of my head, when we get it out of its storage spot we’ll try and update this comment.

Hi i have a similar model that was given to me so no Manuel or info at all. It has a few more stitch patterns . It ran great for a short time . But now bobbin thread continually breaks or upper thread tangles around bobbin assembly immediately on start. Any suggestions?
@RedBarnHomestead3 жыл бұрын
That could be a couple of things - the tension could be off, or the timing could be off. Make sure you have good quality thread, threaded correctly, and try adjusting the tension (both on the bobbin and the upper tension). If this doesn’t help you may have a timing issue.

How old is this sewing machine? have the xl795 and very similar in style. A tough machine! Thanks for this video as I can now oil properly.
@RedBarnHomestead3 жыл бұрын
I’m not 100% certain of the age but I believe it’s early 80’s. They are very tough machines! Glad to help!

eBay or Amazon.

Anyone know how to get a manual for this
@Bert-xi1dn3 жыл бұрын
Referring to 7:53 "I have to make sure it's gonna come out like this": My manual explicitly shows that the bobbin has to be put in the other way around, i. e. with the thread pointing away from you, to the right when looking at it sideways, then pulling it back through the slit. Feels a bit counterintuitive, but there it is...
@RedBarnHomestead3 жыл бұрын
I believe the bobbin thread should be coming off counterclockwise (that should be to the right as you said) I very well might have had it backwards, it doesn’t ever seem to be a deal breaker if I get it in wrong.

How do I aim for a satin stitch?
@RedBarnHomestead3 жыл бұрын
I believe the satin stitch would be wide and short, so adjust the width until it’s the width you’re looking for, and shorten the length to almost nothing.

You mean to wind it? Might be a bobbin locking or clutch issue.

Yeah, you can make your own which might be easier.

I forgot to also mention that I cannot get the little white button for darning to loosen up. The turning knob to change from straight stitch to zigzag is also stuck. Apparently the machine must’ve sat idle for awhile. I guess it’s just gonna take a lot of patience, oiling and heating. any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I think you are in the right path with lubrication. I’d say use pliers to help but you need to be careful not to break anything.
