Saxons were named as such because of the seax. It was their main weapon (especially in shield walls, where it's hard to swing a longsword), so rival tribes called them Saxons. Pretty sure the originals were definitely way longer (from fingers to elbow). Vikings (which actually just means a raider on a ship) just saw the sense of using seax's in warfare. Been reading English/Danish history, hence my comment, I just couldn't help it. Awesome video bro! keep up the amazing content!!

Thanks Wayne, I like how it came out too. I’ll have a full review coming on on that sharpener. There are some large adjustments and jigs that need to be taken into account before making it a solid option in my opinion. It’s not bad; but you need to know what you’re getting into with a couple more items. It gets knives pretty darn sharp though!

Red Beard great video. The word seax is elder futhark" ancient Norce" it means knife. the Anglo Saxons would have learned the word from viking raiders. Another point is the blade you make here is almost an exact replica of the 9 inch blade knife Racine Bowie made for his brother Jim. That's the knife Jim Bowie used at the brawl on the sand bar, where the penny dreadfulls " pocket novels" made him famous. Both the brothers were senatores as well as slave owners. Racine went on to buy trade knives from sheffield to sell to tourists. Racine's diarys are held in a univercitys library and they tell the true story. Part of my family are still in Kentucky. Good stuff, just curious if you could show the spine more? I'm trying to see where the stone wash stops and the sanded finish starts? Is it along the entire spine and just stone wash on the flat of the blade? Looking forward to the sharpener review.

I was trying to pay special attention to this as well. The knife i am currently working on will be stone washed as well with wooden handles and i am trying to decide the best way to go about assembly since i want the stonewash to be on the entire knife (blade, spine, inner handle/spine). Im thinking that ill just have to shape everything to near perfection just before glue up, since any sanding near the spine will just take down my stone wash.

@@blakeparthenay3049 Yep, if you want to keep the spine stonewashed you'll have to do all your shaping with a set of handle scales that can be taken off. You can use take down screws to do this. I normally take the spine to a satin finish to make life easy.

Hey man, it's 8'' long with a blade height of 1.25''. Blade length is about 3.25'' from the choil. The handle is 4.2'' long. Cheers

Another fine looking knife J !!! I have been looking for a wet stone wheel tool for a long time. I knew a trim carpenter about 30 years ago who owned a Delta that was similar to yours but it just had the one stone wheel.

Jig modifications and guides. Took me a bit of research to get it working the way I like, but man it makes blades sharp!

And my favourite knife from history would be the katzbalger, a landsknecht small sword / chopper in English it means cat gutter!! Look at the weapons of the landsknecht.... elaborate amazing blades, they were the rappers of their day with outlandish clothes and weapons blinged to the max. I also suggest look at phillipino and Malaysian blades. There’s far more than the karambit which everyone knows....

You mean a Scandinavian not Viking... Viking is a verb not noun. Just a heads up mate...as in a warrior will go on a Viking and is a Dane.... the straight handle is a product of its time.. bodgers were woodsman who set up shop In the woods... handles were made en mass by the bodger and a passing person might buy a handle as is and modify it to fit. Generally turned on a lathe , fancy little adornment could be added, much like today people like to bling up their stuff.... the guard is an interesting element.... it’s obviously guardless... six (the plural of seax) were general purpose everyday working mans knives... hence the lack of tip.. it seems that they differentiated between every day and war. War blades generally daggers and double edged weapons.... absolutely beautiful results... nice edc.. and major respects from one ginger knife maker to another....
