Man big fan of your work brother. Just insane amount of respect for the work you put out. Really enjoy seeing what your working on. Im usually watching on the T.V. and cant comment but wanted to get on the phone so I could tell you. Love cad I went to college for it. I unfortunately never used it and now I am disabled but I did enjoy making things. Have an awesome day brother

Always make a double sided knife, rather than a single edge. In other words, a proper Round Knife. It takes the same time to strop a single edge as the double, so it is far more time efficient to have that extra side. I have always used a full knife, but doing a course in the UK, I was given a half knife. I soon found out how slow it is.

At the time I made it this way due to the size of stock I had on hand. It works pretty good!

Anyone know what was the rating for the fuse?
@RedBeardOps3 күн бұрын
My memory doesn't go this far back, but I'm fairly sure the fuse is small and just there to protect the PID controller. Probably 1-2 amps? Here is the saga of my PID oven builds... you could ask these guys for sure: www.bladeforums.com/threads/wiring-a-pid-for-your-tempering-toaster-full-walk-through.1655733/ This thread pre-dates that one and actually has a comment about running a 15AMP fuse.... Guess it's there for surges - www.bladeforums.com/threads/pid-toaster-preliminary-questions.1647527/page-2

I installed my belt drive system today. Your video and informative narrative was a big help. Unfortunately the drive gear on the motor didn’t slide off easily like your video. I had to fabricate a gear puller to get the dang thing off! After that, it was an easy day. Well done video and thanks!

I have been hearing that there is a break-in period on the cork belts. What is your break-in process?
@RedBeardOps4 күн бұрын
I'm not a master cork-belt-person... but do use them from time to time. I honestly have the same ones from this video! What I was told was to load it up with compound and hard grind a piece of scrap steel with it for like 15 min... maybe repeat a few times... but that's all I remember. Some people swear by these belts!

Have you ever tried peening a handle on? I think it would have worked great with the theme of the build. That and peened tangs are seemingly the strongest of hidden tangs

I have in the past, however, I wanted this construction to be a full takedown (meaning it can be taken apart and put back together at will)

Nah, plain carbon steels are meh. Any tool steel is better, just because tool steels are cleaner with less inclusions, and moderately alloyed holding edges better and rusting less. O-1 is the easiest, I can get to 62Rc heating cherry red by eye with a propane torch and quenching. Draw it back by grinding off some decarb and using color. So any better than that system using a real furnace works great.
@RedBeardOps6 күн бұрын
From my understanding you get the most out of O1 with soak times in a proper HT oven. Either way, I feel like 1084 is a good starting spot for most and it's extremely popular since it's often combined with 15N20 for damascus. :)

For my money the Waitly wins hands down. I have spent about 2.5 years trying to murder one of these things. It’s still hanging in there.

In England we call that kind of switch a Dewhurst switch. There is plenty of information on youtube for how to wire them for forward and reverse. Also the connections to the motor

Enjoyed your videos and informative approach to your videos. I have learned multiple things from your videos over the years. I also appreciate your ending of pros and cons and your humility. One thing that I think would be great to know about these competition builds is the approximate cost in materials, abrasives and time? Seems to be a perspective that isn't often discussed for some reason.
