Yeah he didn't want to hit the jump that fast so he bailed. He was slipping out because he could not get proper grip to slow down the bike without losing traction. In his second run you can see black grip tape placed at the edge of each step where his braking section is. He wouldn't be able to slow down enough before the jump without them and would have overshot the landing and gotten absolutely smoked by those stairs.
