There is a saying in motocross that you are only as good as your last race and Cooper Webb can testify to that. His 450 career was not living up to the expectations placed upon him. After 2 years of struggle he found himself injured and forgotten. At his lowest point, an unexpected offer from Roger Decoster at Red Bull KTM was the lifeline Webb needed to fulfill his destiny.

Roger should write a book. Not about his life, but about leadership. He's the motocrosser of the century because of his leadership skills, not because of what he did on a motocross bike. His riding accomplishments were just the beginning and, amazing as it may be since he's a 5x world champion, don't even compare to his accomplishments in the sport while off the bike. Truly remarkable. Quiet, understated, steadfast. What a great guy to learn from.

I can relate why I become a fan of Cooper Webb before he win the title, nothing is more lonely than lying in a hospital as an athlete, competitor and no one calls or is around. Great to see his story, awesome to hear someone talk about and acknowledge Roger D like that as finished off by Aldon Baker, he is the man. Hannah’s was saying the same thing back in 76 about Roger.🤙

@joe lepore there not as fast on the mx track ( depending who your talking about , our top few enduro guys In Australia have done quite well in the mx nationals over here, having bad days and still ending up 3rd or 4th ) and in wide open sections but get into the tight, rocky , tree root covered single track and I think some of these mx guys would have a hard time wrapping there head around the speed carried through them by the top woods guys. More talent in mx because it's more popular and more people want to do it, also more money in it but as a woods guy I get a little defensive when they try to make out it's the nanny version of mx. The top woods guys are pretty God dam good and only getting better and it's pretty gnarly too, trees aren't soft , unless it's a really big stack of a jump or something I'd rather wreck on a prepped mx track any day. I don't understand how endurocross hasn't taken off tbh, it's a bit slower then supercross for sure but there is way more wrecks / carnage.
@dbikekid2169
@dbikekid2169 5 жыл бұрын
@joe lepore the entry level in enduro seems to be lower, there is no jumps to feel pressured to hit so you can kind of pick your own pace so you get a lot of slower riders at the entry level that aren't quite into riding aggressive so I see why it gets that rep but there is a big difference from trail rider / entry level racer and a good off road guy , gets pretty gnarly once you pick the speed up in the woods. Not that you were saying it doesn't I just felt like a rant lol

You don’t have to be the fastest to win the series just the most consistent near the top. ET3 is definitely the fastest guy on the tracks.....some days. I first saw Roger in person in 1973 at the USGP. He was special. Kids nowadays think of the older generation of riders as not being equal to the current riders. Let me tell you, the grit and determination of the top riders in Roger's era were everything and more compared to the riders of today when it comes to talent. To do two 45 minute motos on bikes with very little suspension travel, and on tracks that were rarely groomed, that takes a very talented and dedicated rider. RDC was the best.

vlllntynn20 I think your wrong, bike fitness through riding can still win championships and just because one guy trains some champions to the extreme who then give up the sport because they are so disillusioned with the toll it takes on them after two years is pretty disturbing. I personally think this current route of only taking non privateer riders who are already in massive teams is destroying the sport I love, some of the most talented riders in the world are not even given the chance anymore unless they conform. One name “ jean Michelle bayle “ would destroy the current class of USA rider with his track line selections and pure riding ability ( only trained on the bike ) he would not even get a Chance now and most of current European riders are not on this idiotic training regime and are in fact faster than 98% of the USA riders and that’s fact !
