What an awesome piece! SF is the mecca of skateboarding and its skaters, terrain, and industry have influenced skateboarding more than anywhere else. I moved there in the late ‘90s for skating and the music scene and those days were incredible. It was a time when people lived for themselves and not for internet attention. The city was cheap and full of cool people pursuing their passions. Sadly everything changed when the big tech companies moved in but its heart still remains. All skaters should try and make a pilgrimage to pay tribute and respect to this amazing city🙏❤️

Did anyone mention the filmers? Like, it’s one thing to skate this shit, but to follow someone with a camera on a skateboard while they do this shit. That’s another level too!
@chutcentral4 ай бұрын
Most arent following when someones hill bombing, but filming from a distance and zooming.
@neighbor96724 ай бұрын
There’s some old SF downhill skate footage with filmers tailing for sure.
@chutcentral4 ай бұрын
@neighbor9672 Yeah there is for sure, but it's pretty rare. Most are posted up and following with the zoom, or using other ways of shooting besides tailing on another board.

To a teenager skating in the 90's, it was the Mecca of skateboarding. Tanks to all of you , riders and filmmakers, who made that place what it is, all of you who inspired me and motivated me and my friends watching those skateboard tapes, back in the days. Specially the first Real video. Thank God I am a flight attendant and had the chance to skate SF many times before I fucked up my knee. And special thanks to Jake Phelps for what he did for skateboarding. Skateboarding is one of the best things that ever happened to me.

I used to skate SF back in the day, bombing hills, the 9th Ave run and all that, but nothing like these guys! These guys are mad talented and mind blowingly insane! I really don't understand how they do it. I met a kid named Pablo a few years back who ended up dying bombing hills in SF. I met him totally unrelated to skateboarding. After he died I learned he was one of the best hill bombers in the world! This shit scares me just watching it

These skaters are EASILY hitting speeds upwards of 30mph! ON REGULAR STREET BOARDS!! I'm a damn good longboarder and I barely ever go faster than 30mph in my day-to-day. Definitely going to be looking at Pier 7 differently from now on. Most days, I hit a lil' air on that two-stair as I pass by. Sometimes I see people having a sesh there, but I'm usually just passing through. Now I'm going to bring my street board to work tomorrow. See you at the pier in the morning. Thank you Redbull!
