I ski since I am 3years old, and I can tell you I am an over average skier. 15 years ago I was at the race there and a day after the downhill race the steif was open for public. So I drove it down a few times, directly out of the starting house. hey man I can tell you, these guys are absolutely crazy! it was completely pure ice, and with ice I mean not ice witch you know from normal pists, no it was blue ice witch you know from skating! With normal skiers you have no chance to survive. since that experience they have all my respect, I mean I respect them before as well but you know in television it looks a little bit harmless but when you are in the starting house and you look down, you will sh*t in your pents...
@Blueshot1117 жыл бұрын

What do you need your edges cut as sharp as razer blades to hold on in the corners? or is their a technique to keep the edge from getting away from you and crashing at 100kmh? I'm a Snowboarder and I usually stay off icy runs cause I hate losing an edge, and just enjoy playful powder riding compared to going fast. Especially for me on icy patches I easily lose my edge at 60kmh and going down that fast can be end up extremely bad.

Been watching "das Hahnenkamm-Rennen" in Kitzbühel for 41 years now and never gets tired of watching. I've been skiing crosscountry from 7 yo and alpine skiing from 14 yo, trying the 1983 WC downhill course in Schladming at speed in mid 1980ies, by that time, though we were a teengroup of dare devils and offpiste skiing', a real downhill course we had infinitely respect for. Decades later and more experienced, I tried the slopes in Kitzbühel, though only some parts at a time. Trying "die Streiff" at full hunting speed is for the few and the brave. Greetings from Denmark.

They have learned how to focus and concentrate like a laser beam!!! They block out all of the what ifs and charge...It is truly heroic and any one who runs this race is a super star. Winning it is very hard for a mere mortal to comprehend!!!

You’d have to. If you get afraid, you’re dead. You have to literally just focus on the moment the entire time. You can’t think ahead or back.

When I was young and immortal (80s), I would piss off ski patrol by always wanting to ski downhill in full tuck as fast as possible. I even imagined myself racing giant slalom. Now that I'm old, fat and have no desire to ever wear another cast on any part of my body, just watching this makes me poop a little. I know I've done over 100 kms/hr but on nice, big, wide runs with actual SNOW for my skis to grab. These guys are insane. Respect.

I’m 68 and have never skied. I think there’s a pretty good chance I’ll never do that.😅

I skied a run that's very similar, several years ago. Even though it was a "green" run, it was intense ! If it wasn't for the kids on the disks, I would have had a record time. But, that's sports.

I would have to snort a phat line of Colombian courage powder before skiing down that hill with full throttle, but I would probably end up in the choppa.

The guy who had the slowest time finishing this course has my utmost respect, as much as the fastest!

I took a vacation in Austria and Switzerland about '89 and skied as many of the downhill courses as I could, the Streif being one of them. The point for me was to do it at speed and nonstop of course, though certainly not at these breakneck speeds. (I did participate in a couple of downhill and GS events in my past). A hell of a ride even so. In some ways, the most challenging one is Murren for it's the longest by quite a bit.

Actually it is a red piste, there are only two places where the racing track make a shortcut: The Mausfalle, and the little piece between the OberHasusbergkante and the final shuts in order to get the rough terrain on the diagonal at the end of the Hausbergkante. The only problem is that racers do it on a snow that is as hard as steel!

I am an excellent skier. I have been at it 30 years. I have read books on technique. I have been a big mountain instructor. I have pro level gear and tight fitting, very stiff expert level ski boots (like they do.) I could not hold a candle to these guys. In the locker room I saw another instructor who was also a racer. His legs looked like pure muscle- he was ripped. These guys not only have incredible technique- that is the easy part. They are conditioned like you would not believe. I simply don't have the strength to keep my edges in at nearly 87 mph which is the top speed on this course. I was at Beaver Creek in Co. during The Birds of Prey Downhill FIS event years ago. I skied a small part of that course. It very quickly reminded me that I am not in the same league as these athletes. Another thing, before the race, they were watering down the course with big water hoses. This was to create a layer of ICE on top so edged don't carve into powder and make dangerous ruts. It makes the course much faster and would hurt a lot more when you fall. Most of the fast sections have huge compression, off camber turns. Momentum is taking you one way but the hill is sloping the other way. It is beyond challenging. No thanks. Hats off to these people who put it all on the line with every run- even practice. One fall can leave them permanently disabled. Fun to watch but no thanks. I'll remain a fan.

219 people that disliked this video are Monster energy drink executives and maybe owners of near-by mountains that think their mountain is as dangerous and their hill should of been in this video.

Unbelievable athleticism and sheer will to complete this treacherous course. This is competition at its best!

one thing that really makes it more dangerous is not having the sun out when it's overcast and cloudy you have all that flat light and it makes it hard to tell the exact curvature of the ground

Downhill belongs to the toughest and most atheletic sports. And you must be a little mad to drive this fast on pure ice!
