@@14Lenka11 Well he ain't wrong in the sense that this year, because of Covid, no audience members were allowed, the only people at the finish line are other skiers and teams plus officials and slope helpers, medics. The applause that was heard was played from the speakers and as you could hear, someone actually physically pressed the 'stop' button after the crash, I guess in order not to make it disrespectful. While I have no doubt out of those at the finish line everyone gasped and held their breath in shock, we couldn't actually hear their magnitude of 'applause to silence'. It was the artificial/playback applause into the real silence.

I traveled the Kitzbühel Downhill Run SLOWLY in my thirties (1980-someting) and being an average-accomplished non-competition skier I decided it was sheer madness. While extreme sports like F1 have been improving their safety record, sports like Downhill Skiing still seem quite medieval and brutal.

@@einfachabsurd3757 I mean it's not a long time if someone is even dying (asphyxiation is probably an exception, maybe collapsed lung too?) but better to be there even faster. I think someone could have run with ice spike boots there faster than 30 seconds, and begun CPR for example. That's what I was surprised by, that there wasn't a single medic/ski patrol that was faster than the others

He was not disqualified. He passed the finish line fair and square. Doesn't matter how you cross it. Standing or lying down. Together with the skis or without.
