The 2023 WSL World Title is on the line and Griffin Colapinto is trying to take the trophy in his own backyard, at his own home break, in the Rip Curl WSL Finals at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, CA. Born and raised a cobblestone's throw from Lowers, this is an intimate look behind the scenes of an entire surf town rallying behind one of their homegrown, hometown heroes as Griffin chases the glory of someday becoming a World Champ.

The exposure that fans have to the surfers before and after the heats is unlike any other sport. Kudos to Griffin for taking it in stride. When Kobe played for the Lakers, he would take a helicopter to the Ritz Carlton in DTLA, and then drive in an underground tunnel to Staples. He would be completely unseen by fans and media until he emerged on the court. Kobe is arguably the greatest competitor of all-time, and even he understood the importance of limiting distractions before competition. On the flip side, Griff had so many distractions to deal with that entire week. The distractions were rooted in positivity, yet still distractions. Community events, friends, Having to talk to Sheckler and other supporters, on camera, before the biggest competition of his life, is not easy!! Respect Griff. World Title is in his future!

I can feel the pressure through the screen. Championship season for athletes has gotta be the most conflicting, stressful, exciting times in life. That whole 24 hours pre-comp when time stands still and the dread starts to kick in and then you're on the line and it's all over. Win or lose. Terrifying. Sometimes being the underdog feels better. You don't have all that hype and noise to kill the focus.

Depends. John John and Kelly both have this innate ability to channel their own energy in a bubble in between all the noise. It doesn't get lost in it, doesn't hear it, or even seem to acknowledge it. Directed and channeled mindfulness is a mirror that both reflects and utilizes power unlike any other.

This video was so good, i wanted Ethan to go all the way but this gave me chills, the amount of pressure that he must of felt would be immense, he should’ve focused on the heat and not claimed every wave, Ethan’s rail game was just too good, hopefully griff comes back better next year, the best way to beat Filipe is put him in 3rd place to begin with, then if griffin is in the title showdown he could beat anyone except maybe Ethan.
