Im Kelly;s age...Growing up I thought 30 was old. Guys like Kelly, Tom Brady, Randy Couture have shown that age isnt really a barrier......treat ur body well folks.
@bmunsky Жыл бұрын
It seems like the belief that getting older automatically equals being less physically and mentally capable of doing things like surfing is a myth that has become most of our truths. Due to the majority of humans telling themselves that's the way it is and passing this on from generation to generation. There's plenty men and women in their 40's, 50's, 60's and beyond that are more physically fit then most 20 year olds. It's because on a regular basis they exercise, eat healthy, and take other actions to continuously improve and strengthen thier minds and bodies. It's sad when I hear someone say, " I'm to old to do that. "

Every time I have a chance to watch Kelly surf whether its in a contest or free surfing, I get super excited. He brings to the table that something, that X factor, that leaves my jaw agape and my head shaking every time. Thats the way its been since he emerged on tour. I unashamedly admit, I love him and his outlook on life. Bravo Kelly. May your legacy live for as long as it should.
@adammay90762 жыл бұрын
100% agree, if slater isn't in a comp, or he looses, i immediately lose 80-90% interest. I know what to expect with the other competitors.. But with Kelly, you never know what he will pull out, a crazy foam ball 10, or a shocking full rotation. I also believe his turns and carves are the best on tour and are more pleasing to the eye, his style combined with how insanely in the pocket his moves are. Gutted he won't be in el Salvador, I hope he wins J-Bay and Chopes and competes in the top 5. He can still win a title, he is underscored consistently and has had horrible luck most of this year, with ideal set waves going to his competitors within the dying seconds, like clock-work, uncanny how bad his heat luck has been in terms of lulls etc since Pipe. Would be cool if the tour only went in hollow pumping waves, he would have 20 titles.. Technically he should have 13 titles, due to the overscored Mick Fanning 'roll in' at pipe 2012 I think (which caused Slater to lose the title and Yadin to be knocked off tour), and also the year he skipped Brasil then it came down to the wire at Pipe (when Parko won), had he not skipped Brasil he would have won that year quite easily. Anyway can't wait to see him at the next comp after El Salvador

I'm not a surfer nor am I familiar with the surfing world in general but Kelly seems like just a really nice guy, passionate about the life but even when things aren't going his way, he will always try and find time to take a pic with a fan or have a chat about how he surfed. Nice change in a world full of prima donna athletes more interested in their social media pages then anything else.

For me, Kelly doesn't need to be the best surfer on any given day. He's done it more than enough times in any conditions through his life and competitive career to earn the right not to, and to still be considered the best of all time. As much as I am, and so many would be forever interested in his surfing, I'm equally, if not more interested in the human. Just like his surfing, there's so much depth there. That's equally as interesting, that's equally as compelling, that's amazing. I am so stoked to watch this series.

i watched all 11 episodes and got some things to say to you dear Kelly ! first i don't like watching surf contest without your presence - you got so much energy and competitiveness in you more than all of the other surfers all together ! you are the show why ? because you love it so much as none does! we can feel it soo strong ... you and ocean are so good together is just amazing ... but you switching on your mental mind games about how many titles you have and how old you are creates big resonance in that great flow you have -and you will have till the rest of your life - because this is you and thats it . i know it`s extremely hard to not think about it hearing it all the time and everywhere - questions like when you will retire etc or how old are you or just repeating "11 time world champion" --- well it puts pressure on every move ... but question is how do you really feel physically and how much energy do you have ? without thinking about titles, age and when to stop ? how much do you love to compete and be there ? because if you got it all and love the contests ... just continue and give us the great show - Kelly slater flow that noone has - its your style your vibe ... and if you are tired of all that bs about titles, age and all that comments and that puts you off from contest maybe its just better to stop ... which deeply i think you should say fu..... all i´m going till i can`t any more . but don`t focus on shallow aspects of life like titles or age please ... its just human invention .. your flow with the ocean is your spiritual connection . i hope to see you happy Kelly whatever you do whatever you choose ! you are definitely great!

Kelly's achievements create an outstanding roadmap. But the most valuable info may be in how he found a love of surfing that is without equal. That love and it's natural ability to illuminate lifes possibilities and undiscovered factors. How he sustained that love and his epiphany with doing what he loved most and payed handsomely all fell into the one thing he balanced perfectly.

Back when Kelly Slater was a kid the Sebastion Inlet had an incredible wave at First peak directly North of the North Jetty. 2nd and 3rd peak were good but not even close to the refractive energy of 1st peak, That wave bounced of a solid cement slab wall and doubled up with a lot of power and a throwing lip. On clean days with the right swell angle it was a perfect wave. It was hard to get a 1st peak wave because the locals had the peak wired. Old footage of Jeff Crawford and Kelly at first peak is still epic. The North Jetty was redone with batter piles and that wave is not a shadow of what it was.
