He approaches the acting profession with the same respect that a lot of British actors do. You can't get cast for roles and be well known here without gaining the respect of your craft from guilds, boards, theatre directors. Hollywood looks for people who look lucrative and turns them into actors. That's why a lot of UK movies are purely passion projects but have so much cadence and personality that they are a joy to watch, but their subtle well crafted messages are lost on the majority of international viewers. Give Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Daniel Radcliffe, Paul Bettany, Tom Hardy etc etc the correct roles and script, and they as working actors will bring the movie to life.
@TheSuspectOnFoot4 жыл бұрын
He is kinda narcissistic for going on a rant about big stars no longer being a thing just because people don't see him as a big star and watch his movies just because he's in them. There's still names that sell a movie to certain people but Mackie just doesn't happen to be one because he haven't had enough memorable actor-defining roles

This is the exact problem I have with so many people I see wanting to be successful with music also (and this is coming from someone who wants to be successful in music) - do you care about being personally famous more than you care about the creative endeavor itself? Cause it really shows when you're the former - just look at any artist who's trying to conform to whatever the most mainstream sound as possible is so they can slap their name on it as opposed to those who care more about writing something that excites them artistically.

I went to a performing arts high school and let me tell you, some of my classmates are now on Broadway, and several have been consistently working TV and movie actors since the late 90's. The people who were the most attention seeking and 'confident' at my school, aren't doing anything artistic now. They were "the leads" in high school and now they're just making noise on Facebook. In fact, only *one* of the working actors who I went to school with was even a lead in one of our plays! (He was really good in that, though.) He was mainly a solid ensemble player and an all around humble (and very cute, but may not have known just how cute) guy. He's now married to a fellow actor who herself is on a very well regarded police procedural. The real talent was in the students at my school who weren't "stars" they were artists.
