Thanks for this, helped me change mine! I ended up taking out the 3 bottom screws to loosen the gearbox, which you can then just lift it out.

@@mattfranck7040 heck yeah, I’m glad it helped! Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for repping the Desert Rc sticker on the back, bud. Great video. Well done. We need to get out and crawl soon. I wanna see that thing with my own eyes

Your welcome! Haha I’ve needed a good lexan body to stick it to! :) Yeah we do huh! It’s been awhile.

overdrive/underdrive is an ABSOLUTE must for me! my high performance rigs i personally like 32-36% OD, and my trail rigs i like 15-20%. turning performance is improved, general climbing better, downhill is better, almost all gains up to about 25% OD, but once up in the 30s and above it can hurt sidehill and some vertical capability on smoother surfaces. the constant loss of traction causes the rear to slide more. that can help in some situations tho, so gotta find your happy medium for your driving style/rig/terriain.

Agreed! Surprised to hear you run 32-36% in so rigs. You’ve found it’s worth it? :) I think I have like 26% in my reaper

I will change axle gearing before anything even added weight, while modifying approach angles. Now that said my trx4 defender the first from 2017 just barely received rear under-drive a year ago. I can excuse this by unlocking the rear axle. I don’t think people understand the power in a locking and un locking rear axle. Definite poor man dig. With both the it’s superb!! If you map your line correctly and get the right tire size to drag on the body in full compression or earth particle and slow throttle input it will hold the rig back. This new red cat is making a lot of noise and I love it. Great job on your video.

I never have run a truck with the ability to lock and unlock the rear (basically putting it into 2 wheels drive right?) that would be cool! Thanks! Stay tuned for more! :)

Buy a dremel tool and with there easy to shatter thin cutting disk you can grind a slot for a flat head screw driver.

The only thing I do not like about overdrive or underdrive is, it always took away from the steering radius & made my rigs perform great going up hill but lost my very tight steering radius. Tight steering radius, proper weight distribution, & tires are the most important factors in a crawler rig in my opinion & personal experience.
@HobbyDrop Жыл бұрын
Well over/underdrive will help turn radius increase. Because it pulls the front faster. what rig and % made it worse for you? That just seems weird. I do agree that weight distribution and tires are a huge make or break for performance.

I have had steering problems using ovedrive on all my 1/24 scale scx24's rigs & fcx24's using no more the 23% overdrive. It would climb great but took away at the least 10% to 15% of my steering radius. The only way I would use overdrive or underdrive is when using full time 4-wheel steering to compensate for the steering loss.@@HobbyDrop

@@DTW-bx2vy super interesting. I’ve only ever used it on the 1/10th scale stuff….maybe that’s the difference? 🤷🏻♂️

Would you say it’s a must to have some grease in there before running those new gears in it
@dylanframe596111 ай бұрын
What kind of grease do you recommend
@HobbyDrop11 ай бұрын
It will definitely improve the longevity of the gears and make em more quite. Any gear grease from your local hobby store would do! I’d go with something cheap haha
