I here you on those big ass tires tearing things up!! I just now changed my rampage over to the 24 mm adapter’s so I can run my Baja with the same tires is my rampage a lot more cost effective
@SteelCityRC5 жыл бұрын
There ya go bro. You use Ram-tec adapters? I don't know much about the X-series but heard of those. That truck with baja tires probably helps low end too I'd guess. They aren't as tall as stock XT tires right?
@Meyers2strokeRcgarage5 жыл бұрын
Steel City RC yes Ram-tech adapters and it totally changed the handling characteristics. The stock XT tires are junk my foam in them completely deteriorated causing them to go flat and get out of balance bad. I got more low end and big end both just because the stock XT tires were flat. Plus the Baja tires are lighter with less rotating weight.

Would it be possible to list these "needed" upgrades that you discuss in this video? If you don't mind, I was injured 2 years ago and I'm in a wheelchair now... it takes a lot for me to get out and get the run started... I just got my truck and I'd rather feel secure when I'm running it from the start... it would save me a bunch of effort, because when something goes wrong for me, it's 3x the hassle than it used to be when I was walking... I was a brushless guy and new to gas... I'm in desert conditions where 8th scales don't cut the terrain well... and I'd like nice long run times for the same reason mentioned... thanks so much for any help you can offer... your videos are already so informative! This is great info on the Redcat Rampage MT/Dunerunner. Even though they are considered by many as entry level or beginner rigs, they can be extremely reliable with simple upgrades. Your videos have proven that! Great stuff here!!
@SteelCityRC5 жыл бұрын
Appreciate that man. I love RC bro and the Rampage MT was the start of it all. Very fun to drive too.
@NightOfTheLiving8bit3 жыл бұрын
The word ‘entry level’ is so pointless IMO. Anyone can go out and buy the most high end 5th scale machine and destroy it…same with the more inexpensive options. At the same time…there is nothing entry level about a $900+ price tag for an RC either. In the electric world, that kind of money buys you the best of the best. I look at the MT and DR as great ‘upgradable’ options. You can buy it and start enjoying it right away, and slowly modify it as you go. Either way, it’s still a very large and relatively complex machine compared to almost any electric RC cars. It requires far more understanding of engines, drive terrains, electrical components, etc etc other than just basic gear ratios and power limits.

whats up man!! Love this video, very interesting, you know this thing 100%. and btw great deal on that entire diff gear unit for 80 bucks. You're right those gears alone are basically that same price. And good job on the single servo conversion too, I did that on my Traxxas revo, made it much better.
@SteelCityRC5 жыл бұрын
RC brother. What's up man. I got to know this RC very well not by choice. I failed to mention in this video that this truck has really tested my patients the first year of ownership. It got to the point where I was gonna stuff a rag in the gas tank. Light the rag and run the truck till it couldn't anymore lol. Through trial and error finally made it rugged enough to actually use it. The single servo works pretty good but it isn't perfect. I'd really like to run dual Hitec d845 servos. But this time powering the servos directly to the lipo rx battery and send just the signal wires to the rx. That would eliminate the voltage drop issues I was having running the servos through the rx. It actually would drop the voltage so low it would trip the superbee killswitch and shut the engine off on hard turns. So I got frustrated and put a single in there. Then laziness has kept me from doing the wiring and dual servos lmao. It working ok is another factor ahahahaha
@hybrid324945 жыл бұрын
@@SteelCityRC I hear you man!! The frustrations on those damn gears usually is what gets people. For me it's those original MT tires, they are cool looking, but the deadlock is poorly designed compared to a basic baja rim. That Redcat gear system may be better if it had hardened steel gears. I broke teeth once I upped the engine. Learned about the belt system on the Rampage Forum. People can hate on Redcat, but their 2 stroke 5th scale cars share many many many parts and similarities with Losi, Hpi, etc. Of course you’re going to spend more with those brands…bud that’s because they’ve already upgraded some aspects of their machines. The Rampage offers a more affordable entry into 5th scale that will get you driving right away - as you upgrade over time.

You nailed it. The two Redcat 5ths I recommend are the Rampage MT and Dunerunner. They are alost identical. The DR has longer more narrow chassis is the difference really. @SteelCityRC4 жыл бұрын
What's up man. So the hex is stripped out of the screws? You mean the 3 big 4mm hex holding the engine to the transmission plate? I use a small butane torch on the screws first then try to crack them free with a tool so the loctite melts allowing the screws to be removed. If you can snap a pair of vice grips on the screw head after heating it should work on those bolts. Other screws that strip I find a Torx bit that is a little bit larger than the hex in the screw. Heat with the butane torch and tap the Torx bit in the stripped hex to remove. Let me know which screws you mean.

@@gregforeman5530 no problem at all. I make a point to heat every screw I'm trying to remove that threads into metal before hand. Doesn't have to be molten hot but if you see a little smoke that's about when to stop the heat. It's the loctite melting off. But torx bits work good pounded into the smaller hex screws that are rounded off.

I’m just starting to get into 1/5 been 1/10 nitro for awhile was thinking on getting the rampage mt and go straight to the belt drive but I can not find one any suggestions where to order one thank you for your time
@SteelCityRC4 жыл бұрын
Hey what's up and welcome. The Rampage MT is an awesome starter rig that can be awesome. You will know this from nitro. The 2 stroke engine and sheer size of its wheels rattle and vibrate everything loose. Go through it with a bottle of blue loctite in hand. That saves a lot of down time in the field. As far as the belt drive instead of gears. Not sure it is worth it. The shafts the gears/belt pulleys ride on are only 8mm diameter. The belt tension which isn't much adds a side load on the bearings in the gearplate causing drag. The rig doesn't roll as smooth as with gears. So I broke a clutch bell shaft one day. Replaced it and put gears back on. Been a little while now. Seems ok. Another thing is the big MT wheels. Ya they look nice. But man are they heavy and break parts. Good luck with your decision. Hit me up if you need more info. Thanks for stopping by 🤘👊

@SteelCityRC4 жыл бұрын
Hey what's up. It sounds like you had a grubscrew work itself loose somewhere in the drivetrain. Quite possibly the transmission gear mounting blocks. It is a known problem that your issue sounds very similar to. I would pull the trans gears off to check. Actually take all the screws that thread into metal out and apply blue loctite and reinstall. This will save you down time in the field when you expect to have fun. Good luck finding the issue

Hey buddy, im new to the RC world and just bought a rampage MT. I was wondering if I could do a gearing upgrade to increase the speed/torque of the truck? I heard something about "spur gears" and "pinions" but when i look that up, doesn't seem to be upgraded parts specifically for the MT. I was thinking maybe they have them for a different model redcat but still compatible with the MT. Would appreciate the help!
@SteelCityRC3 жыл бұрын
Hello. Congrats on getting the Rampage MT. The gearing. You can get gears made for the Redcat Dunerunner and use those. It will get you better top speed. But you want torque and speed which is impossible with a stock engine. It just doesn't produce enough power. If you were to put Dunerunner gears on a stock MT it would bog bad off the line but get a faster top speed if and when it finally gets there. To get best of both worlds you need a better engine. But with that said. More power equates to more breakage. Those transmission gears do not hold up to power well. Unfortunately this truck is just not set up to be heavily modified. I have had mine nearly 5 years and recently stripped transmission gears again. It sat all summer being frustrated at it.
@EvWking3 жыл бұрын
@@SteelCityRC I really appreciate the very thought out and detailed response. So how do i know which gears to get from the dunerunner? The stock dunerunner gears? Or is there a specific "upgraded" set for the dunerunner that ill need? Yes ideally I'd love speed and torque but id settle more for torque right now. I do plan on upgrading the engine in the future. There was a seller on ebay a few years ago who used to sell them. From Germany. Not sure if they are available now though. Heard not. Appreciate you stopping by 👊 🤘
