Thanks for this video! I recently got another Redcat model and it came with a LiPo battery...I'm not used to this, since all my previous trucks have come with NiMH batteries and setting an ESC up is foreign territory. I followed the lil' tree on the instructions and was confused by five being one long beep, so I couldn't help but be a little worried over whether I'd set it right or not...I wouldn't want it to burst into flames my first run with it, but fortunately I did and everything's gravy!

whats the amp of the esc and the KV of the motor i have the EZrun-S10 RTR esc and it has a matching blue motor but dont know the brand or KV of it no info on the motor and cant find the amps of hte esc pretty sure it was out of the same machine you have there

Great video. I just bought the Volcano. The ESC looks different but I think the flashing combos are the same. I'll review the instructions carefully. Different note, I think I have a 5v fan. Are you running a 12v fan with lipo? That is what the manual says for mine so I'll get the 12v fan.

Thanks Mad Man. Sorry for the late reply. I called redcat and they don't recommend using a 3 cell with the stock set up. 2 cell only. To be honest, I think 3 cell would be too much. 2cell makes it run very fast! I'm getting a heat sink for the motor. It seems to run very hot.

+Tony Goose No you do not. The truck comes with a Nimh battery but it is set in the lipo mode from factory. I fyour running a lipo from the start, ur good to go!

Go to redcat racing, and look for your truck, and you will find the esc.. $54.99 I looked at ebay briefly and could not find anything.

If you get a hesitation when you give throttle... then yes. But it will probably be set in lipo mode, when they were selling this truck they were giving the customer a nimh battery with the truck set in lipo mode. This created the hesitation. You just need to have the esc in the correct mode per the battery you are using. Also, get aluminum rear hubs....its a must.

I would not recommend getting the cheaper version. Get the brushless pro version, other than that a lipo will not make a difference in power.

Its a EZRUN-S10 , its the stock esc that came with the truck. Is your truck the brushless edition? It should not of hurt your esc when putting a lipo in it. Drop me a line if you are having trouble with it, be glad to try and help.

Hey thks for publishing this video which helped me to program my esc. I followed the exact steps but ended up burning my esc. I was running for about 10 minutes and suddenly stated smoking heavily from the inside of esc. Two of my ICs are burnt out and the ESC is not working anymore. Dont know whether my FAN stoped working so that ESC got over heated. However its gone now. Ordered a new ESC and I am scared that same will happen again. Do you know any possible reason for smoke (Heavy white smoke. I thought car will be totally burnt)? I can send you pics

I would think it was a faulty ESC. I would recommend calling Redcat Racing, tell them what happened, you could even tell them to look up my video of what you followed... If they will not help you in any kind of way, I would sell it and spend your money on a different brand. This is just my own opinion. And I would also send them the pics! Let me know how this turns out please...... :)

Just submitted a claim with RedCat. I am new to this hobby and quit frustrated of what happened. Anyways this hobby is really really nice. I am gonna change to Traxxas seriously if they do not honor the claim. Man all these troubles I went through is to just drive this RC only for 30 minutes in total?? Already bought a new charger, Lipo and 40 bucks worth aluminium parts which I couldn't even fit in the car.... I am angry and frustrated at the same time. However, I noticed that your car is slightly different from mine. To fit the Lipo you removed the plastic piece using a knife and my one was fit using a screw nut which I easily removed without cutting. My ESC is water proof and the red button which you use to program it is not in my one instead it is there in the same on off button.

Hey I'm running a lipo on my epx pro brushless and after my run today it will not reverse. Braking still works fine and I went through and checked all the settings and even re binded the receiver yet still no reverse, any suggestions?

Stinky Toes Ahh yes, I do have a few suggestions you could try. 1) Go into the ESC set-up just like my video and change your setting to FBR (forward,brake,reverse), you may have it on FB (forward,brake) only. 2) Make sure your throttle trim is in the neutral position or just under/over neutral, if you have it maxed out to the forward position, this could also be why you cant get into reverse. 3) Re-calibrate your transmitter, there is a video here on youtube on how to do this, I also believe it is on this model as well..... No worries, it very easy and takes no time as all. Hope one of these gets you going! Let me know how you make out...... Take care :)

+Cullen Perrodin You dont need to run through it like I did..... you just really need to change it from lipo to nimh if you are running a nimh battery. And vice versa if running a lipo. If it is still not working, try calibrating your ESC throttle end points. Also, make sure your battery in the truck is fully charged and your batteries in your transmitter are new/fully charged. Hope this helps..... :)

Check the battery leads and connector. Also check the leads and connector coming from the ESC that you plug your battery into. Are the connectors soldered correctly? What charger are you using? Do you know much about lipo batteries?

No I charged it. Ran it had a tire failure. Fixed the problem, went to run it the next day and then it started doing this. I checked the battery, put it on the discharge mode. Said it was low. So I charged it. No difference. I shut the car off then back on and it will run for 5 sec then stop. Steering still responsive, but no foward or reverse. If I shut the car off and back on it does it again. No matter how many times I do it. This esc does not have the button like yours. You think Mabey I'm having battery failure?

When I press full throttle from start it doesn't do anything. When I gradually press the throttle it is fine. I am running a 6 cell Nimh and ps can I pop wheelies with a 6800mah 6 cell Nimh?

+Aaron Fonseca That sounds like your getting the hesitation when hitting full throttle. You will need to change the ESC into Nimh mode like in the video to correct that. Or just get a lipo. A larger Nimh will not give you more power, all it does is give you longer run time. You need a lipo to give you more power and massive wheelies. Watch my other video called redcat volcano epx pro LIPO POWERED, you will see what I mean.......

Mad Man Slice i put the bind wire in and it does nothing it just stays solid red... and every time i try to set the throttle. i hold the button on turn the car and the red light starts flashing and once i go to click it again it just stays a solid red when its suppose to blink green i think i have a bad esc or something

I had something like this happen to mine, but I would turn the truck on and it would go full throttle without any tx input, or the servo would start dancing all over the place. It ended up being the tx was not calibrated... I would call redcat racing service line, they will walk you through some programs to hopefully fix it. Let me know how you make out.

Just remember to change your LVC to a high setting to protect the lipo. And change your throttle punch to level 4 to get the most snap out of that lipo as well... Put some wings on it cause it flies!!!! lol

+Cullen Perrodin So that is a Nimh I believe. Its strange that they ship this out as a lipo ready truck and include a Nimh and then they also have the esc set up for a lipo. You will need to change your setting into Nimh to extinguish the hesitation.

Red Cat recently updated the truck to include 4 shocks on both axels for a total of 8 with aluminum brackets for the shocks. It also comes with a lipo included. Great bang for your buck!

When I run it, it starts to cut in and out, and sometimes, out of nowhere, it will start running the throttle without any cause, even if I hit the brakes on my transmitter. I have no idea what's wrong with the car. I'm a newbie, excuse that. The car will sometimes let me steer, but no throttle, and sometimes it just shuts down. I'm fairly sure it isn't a battery issue, my LiPo battery is fully charged. I just got the car out, turned it on, and it ran great. After about 8 minutes, it just stopped receiving anything. Then, I went over to check the car, as soon as I touched it, it was fine again and I could run. 5 Minutes later it stopped receiving again. I touched it, it was fine. That was right out of the box. -_- Now this is just a repeated process of my car randomly losing the power to throttle or reverse, losing power to do anything all together, or the car just gunning itself across the street when I'm not even touching anything on the transmitter. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

+All For Christ Videos K , I just looked up your Tornado. First calibrate your radio. Here is a video that should help with that..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYDOqJ6wnquKe5o If you are using a Nimh battery, this is your problem for sure. When your buggy all of a sudden stops, it because the battery is low of charge. By the time you walk over to it, it has had enough time to build up a little power to start again for a brief moment. Nimh batteries give a huge spike of power all at once, and then they drain very quickly. If your getting around 8min from it, thats about normal. If you want to run that Nimh battery, just follow my vid and switch the LVC to off. Once you put a lipo battery make sure you switch the LVC back on..... just follow my video again to do that. +Mad Man Slice I'll try the thing in the video you sent me. The thing is, I'm using a 2s LiPo. I don't even have a NiMh, lol. I'm just not sure how to set the ESC up, or whether or not that is even the problem...I'll try the calibration in the video, and see if that changes anything. :)

Turn the buggy on and see if all controls are going in the right direction. Also, try to re bind the transmitter.
