Yielding iso's are pretty interesting. I've read several sprint coaches talk about the benefits of yielding iso's to failure. I've played around with holding the horse stance and working up to some longer holds made my legs incredibly fatigue resistant, while also improving my hip mobility. Since iso's create an occlusion effect, I suspect they have some pretty unique benefits. Good stuff, Matt

I used to Be a boxer with weight training experience as well..iso helps in many forms..wall iso punch stance do help musles needed to throw punches .during my weight training I do yielding ,makes u strong with light,moderate weights. I even pulled 12 ton bus n 10 tyres truck .if u hate gym ,iso training itself can be ur strength training whn done correctly u also use it for recovery since it promotes more blood flow...stil learning alot n reading about Alexandar zass ,mighty Atom n bronze era athletes .those guys used iso n muscular contractions to develop crAzy strength and great bodies..all the best n thank u sir for posting

I wonder how much of improving neuromuscular proficiency from isometrics is from an "easing into" maximal force production that maybe counters protective inhibition. Like inhibiting inhibition. Teaching the body, over time, that it is safe to produce more force.
@RedDeltaProject3 жыл бұрын
That's a very good point. Plus there's sometimes an emotional barrier there as well. When people start doing isometrics they sometimes get nervous when they feel their muscles working that hard. It's a good way to teach people how hard they need to make their muscles work to get stronger

Do you have any videos or books on how long to hold an isometric and how often to train each exercise and sets? How long do you prefer to hold one?

Nice video! I read in an article on T nation about super slow quasi-isometrics. It said that to build strength you have to do it passively, ie with the least amount of tension and only in the contracting muscles. I'm confused because I used to think that more tension/intensity equals more strength. What're your thoughts about this?

Ya i too have the same doubt There's also something called as ballistic isometrics

Hi, so if i have well understood, we can still build muscles with only overcoming isos ? Best wishes for 2021 !
@Siberius- Жыл бұрын
Yes you can. Especially tendons and ligaments (which you want to get adequate rest for).

Is the bullworker classed as yielding isometrics as your working against resistance?
@RedDeltaProject2 жыл бұрын
Correct, although working against a spring like resistance, as the bullworker does or using bands, it's almost a hybrid as you can theoretically pull hard enough to match force and muscle tension.
@marianolarrosa794 жыл бұрын
Matt wondered why in the GSC strength phase you never talk about the 5x5 option with 2 or 3 minutes of rest between sets. Doesn't work for bodyweight exercises? Or if I add extra weight to it? Sorry for my daring but that question arose. BFLF
@RedDeltaProject4 жыл бұрын
I don't talk about a lot of possible strength programs, simply because you can apply any strength-basd workout strategy to that phase you like. 5x4, 5/3/1, EMOM, 3x8 anything you like can work great for it.

Sensei, if you're programming isometrics for muscular endurance (i.e., as a stamina/finisher phase), would you still suggest hybrid isometrics, just applied for a longer duration (e.g., 45-60 sec.)?
@RedDeltaProject3 жыл бұрын
Sure duration = endurance, but make sure you're using a level of resistance with the hybrid isometrics that allows you to do that.

Does yielding build muscle if you do it for 2-5 minute for a single set?
@RedDeltaProject3 жыл бұрын
You can build muscle with anything that involves progressively working the muscle harder over time. But holding an exercise for 2-5 minutes may mean working with a low level of intensity that may not be adequate. try shooting for exercises you can do for about 20-30s max
@anthonyromayo62963 жыл бұрын
@@RedDeltaProject Matt in response to your answer, my training is 95% isometrics both yielding and overcoming. One of the hardest movements I do is the push-up hold in the bottom position. Maybe it's just me but as I go along and progressively am able to hold it longer, it really works every muscle in my body because from the beginning I am tensing my whole body like a steel cable. I get tremendous response from this exercise. I do have to start practicing it more regularly but one set does it for me. I just made it up to 1: 36 my last workout.

Whenever I do isometric holds, I feel a sharp pain. If I do an isometric hold of lateral raise in a doorway, my shoulder hurts for about a second. But the pain is sharp and intense.
@shitpants96024 жыл бұрын
Ease into the tension and see if it ceases. You may be going in too cold and as it stands, you may have a muscular imbalance or an unbeknownst limb size difference etc. You'll figure it out mate. Remember to work with it rather than around it though.
@vin5388 Жыл бұрын
Sharp pain is a sign something is wrong - maybe an orthopedic condition such as scar tissue or "joint mouse" . Best to avoid movements that elicit sharp pain and/or see an orthopedist or PT.

@RedDeltaProject4 жыл бұрын
It may be, all depends on how much resistance you bring to the exercise. Strength is more due to resistance than the actual exercise you do
