Awesome information 👏 👌 Thanks 😊 Found you on one of Dr. Berg's videos, and that sent me down the isometric exercise rabbit hole. 😂 I had heard of isometric exercises years ago but never gave it much thought. I will follow your advice on building muscle first using isometric exercises. I think I was just pushing too hard for weight loss and creating a lot of stress in my life. Your comment about being on the fat loss merry-go -round for years really drove the point home, because that was me. Maybe this change will help me relax and focus on one thing, then the fay loss will follow. Really appreciate your excellent content. Wishing you the best. 🙏

Only the most highly trained can burn a significant number of calories via exercise. It doesn't matter how big or strong you get them, 5-10 calories per minute accomplishes nothing. DIET can always achieve a greater deficit. Add proper resistance training to a proper deficit with protein and you'll lose fat much faster than wasting time trying to gain a little bit of muscle first. Losing fat also reduces BF% enormously faster than any amount of muscle gain. And you can do it exponentially faster. Even 1 lb fat loss per week is 4 lbs per month. It takes a beginner a few months to gain that much muscle which will impact BF% insignificantly. Wasted time. That's basic physiology.

It is said that 90% of diets fail. Building muscle is easier than losing weight for most people today.

As long as you carry a sizable body fat percentage, you have energy for workouts.

The amount of muscle that needs to be gained to have a significant impact on basal metabolic rate and, thus, total daily energy expenditure is quite large

Without watching your video first, my guess would be to build muscle because it burns fat!

Just eat enough protein. Some days on a surplus, some days on deficit. I’ve been doing this, losing fat and building muscle for 1.5 year.

Get on a proper nutrition plan and exercise program and it will take care of itself.

it depends on how fat somebody is to start. i would have to disagree with you here. somebody who is fat needs to lose pounds. once they get skinny, then start lifting. i think that people who lift when they're fat are going to stay fat. that's my .02.

100%. I'm the living proof of that

Nope you should always do strength training. You can lower body fat without getting skinny

I was fat for decades despite being extremely active. I later changed to a healthy diet but still carried the fat. I lost the fat very quickly (in 2 months) by stopping ALL exercise besides, and fasting. Emphasis on stopping the exercise. I 100% disagree with this video. Get thin first. It's all about hormone management.

If you want to lose fat then obviously targeting it directly is the fastest way to go about it, with strength training having little impact. But if you want to also be muscular then how do you go about it? The sooner you start strength training the sooner you'll have muscle. You mention being extremely active. People don't have to be "extremely active" to build strength/muscle. It takes two weeks before muscle begin to break down, and even after 3 weeks there is virtually 0 atrophy/breakdown. Hence you could do a full body workout once every other week and still build muscle all over. If you're truly lazy you could make that three exercises: squats, push ups and pull ups - or something like that. You didn't specify what you meant by a healthy diet. -Everyone is different but personally I think that Matt's advice is correct for most people. People struggle losing weight and then gain it back again. Having a consistent routine for building muscle and getting adequate protein is a good place to start, and maybe the weight will come off without much struggle from adding more meat alone. Sounds like you mastered your cravings, and that's tremendous for fat loss but most people won't do this or see dieting this way.

I agree with this, although it goes against the advice normally given. Or rather: I agree that this works for my body and metabolism, it may not work for others. That said, I've been very, very consistent with strength training for many years now. But I was always able to cut by fasting in the morning and replacing intense exercise with very light stretching..
