The story frames John as a victim, but he continuously enables Ann's manipulative behavior. Is he partly responsible for the dysfunction in their relationship?

Ann's desperation after the divorce seems performative. Is she genuinely remorseful, or just upset about losing her 'backup plan'?

I think it's more like she didn't know what she had until she lost it.

John's "calmness" throughout Ann's betrayals seems less like maturity and more like emotional detachment. Is he repressing his feelings, or is he simply indifferent?

Ann's justifications for her actions are weak and self-serving. Is she truly remorseful, or just upset that John finally stopped tolerating her behavior?

John's "travel the world" ending feels like a shallow attempt at a happy ending. Does it truly address the emotional complexities of the situation?

Totally agree. His answer should have been NO I won’t visit her in the hospital. We are divorced. End of discussion!!

The constant comparisons between Ann's behavior with John and Mark highlight a double standard. Is the story unfairly judging Ann's choices?

The story relies heavily on clichés about the "other woman" and the "one that got away." Does this detract from the narrative's depth?

John's 'calmness' seems more like passive-aggression. Is he really so unbothered, or is he just repressing his emotions?

I knew a chap who was rejected by a girl he loved and who claimed liked him as she wanted a 'bad boy' type. She then returned to him later as a single mother but he had the self respect to reject her.

The ending feels abrupt and unsatisfying. Does it offer any real closure or insight into the characters' growth?

He keeps threatening divorce but doesn't do it. The games they played were a waste of time. The husband is a wimp. I don't respect such men. And I don't enjoy reading about them.

Stupid story. Starts off sounding like he caught his wife sneaking off for a weekend with another man. Turns out she has been openly cheating on him for a long time. OP was a total simp. Skip this one.

Mark's violent outburst is horrific, but Ann's constant playing of both men arguably contributed to the escalation. Is she partially to blame?

Mark's violence is horrific, but Ann's constant back-and-forth between the two men arguably fueled the situation. Is she partially responsible for what happened?

Ann's infidelity is unacceptable, but John stringing her along for a week seems unnecessarily cruel. Was his 'test' justified?

I think he had to prove to Anne & himself of them that she was completely addicted to Mark - It would have been better if he had gathered the evidence, filed for divorce & dumped her on Mark’s doorstep, after telling him he could have her if he wanted.

@@OlinaKnoller In 1976 my 1st wife was caught cheating. I was very young and believed that good men got good wives. I didn't know any better. Because my youngest was just out of diapers, I gave her a choice. Him or me. She made up a 3rd choice. She said she couldn't understand why she couldn't have both. Wrong answer. I threw her out. I didn't grieve or sit feeling sorry for myself. Less than 2 weeks later I simply replaced her with a younger pretty woman mostly to keep my bed warm. The situation changed me. I was no longer a nice guy. By doing that one change the rest of my life has been great. Not perfect,, but far far better. My 2nd wife was well aware of my new boundaries. She knew crossing those boundaries would mean I would quickly and simply replace her. And she was aware of just how easily I could,, and would do it.

John's sudden disinterest in Ann after years of devotion seems unrealistic. Is this a believable character arc, or a plot convenience?
@LanerFincke4 күн бұрын
The story focuses heavily on Ann's betrayal, but what about John's emotional neglect? He repeatedly prioritizes work over their relationship. Is he partly to blame for her seeking affection elsewhere?
