I find that the second method is much more efficient, it holds alot longer than other ways
@jcaldwell43911 жыл бұрын
You can tuck both ends of the belt in the third method shown. Watch the Rener Gracie video about how to tie the BJJ belt. He calls it the "superlock" variation. I finally figured out how to do it, and I'm gonna tie my belt that way from now on when I'm at the academy training. Looks better, and won't come untied.

Wow, I needed this! I've gotten so tired of my belt getting untied during practice using the first method. Hopefully my sensei won't freak out when I start tying my belt differently than he does, he's a little old fashioned.
@popo-bx1fp5 ай бұрын
Real, my sensei will scold you if your foot is the slightest bit forward in aikido training, because the "traditional way" conists of your foot facing all the way out. He has pictures of O'sensei (I think thats his name) all over the walls for tradition.

That last method, with extra tuck, is something you can see in a lot of old pictures of judo and jujutsu fighters - I've wondered sometimes why people don't seem to do it anymore in many places, when it seems to have been the regular way at one time. The founder of the karate style I follow (Wado-ryu) also insisted on wearing his belt with both ends tucked back through, as he was originally a jujutsu guy and didn't like it coming loose from people grabbing onto it. I've done it a lot since starting judo, and also do it with all the little kids' belts at karate, since some of them can't figure out the square knot by themselves if it comes undone.
@88Musk6 жыл бұрын
Adam I noticed that also. There is one other way I learned in TKD before I started in Judo that he did't show. A combination of the 1st and third method.

Good work with the video, well explained. I think this flat looking knot is similar to the third one, but both ends go in between the two layers wrapped, instead of only one (the left one). Not so sure, but I think that's it. See you!

Good demo. Couldn't you do number 3 by starting with number 1 providing you make sure the layers overlap properly? It appears that you are ending up in the same place before the last modification.

I wouldn't wash or dry it that way. Wash it cold and air dry it. At your height, the sleeves will get too short if you dry it. After about 6 months of using it, then you can dry it from time to time. My uniforms fit baggy too.

@JiuJitus121010 жыл бұрын
SeoulTee I use the third method when I train and the second method in tournaments. The only reason I have to retie my belt when I tie it using the third method is that the initial tie wasn't tight enough. Great video.
@Kalernor9 жыл бұрын
Paul Cartee why dont u use the third method in tournaments as well, since it normally doesn't untie?
@JiuJitus12109 жыл бұрын
I don't use the third method in tournaments because having my belt not untie gives my opponents an advantage. If their belt falls off, I can't use it. If my belt stays on, they can use it against me. I don't use the third method in tournaments because I don't want to give my opponent an advantage.
@Kalernor9 жыл бұрын
but according to the rules when your belt unties the referee signals you to tie it again..or am I wrong?

@lukegray74236 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but you did the first one wrong. Your right hand guides the belt under the other wrapping. It doesn't cross over. It should end up just like the last two you tied. A new belt tied like that could hurt your back if you fall wrong, and is uncomfortable. Why hasn't anybody noticed this?

hey SeoulTee, there's an aikido dojo near my home. what are your thoughts on aikido? is it legit training for self defense?
@Reddragondiaries11 жыл бұрын
I think aikido is great stuff. I wish I had done it at some point along the way. I'm sure there are some aspects about aikido that would transition well into self-defence. Much police training is centered around alot of the takedown and locking techniques of aikido for subduing someone. Much of it is theoretical and there isn't a real free sparring venue in aikido, but it's still great.
