My advice would be to get a large area rug for the living room. One bigger then the length of the couch. That small one makes the space look small. A big one tucked under the couch and covering more of the floor would make it so much cozier and appear bigger

If you want to keep your gray couch but have another color, you can always get it reupholstered. If your couch is from Ikea there are companies that make covers based on the model dimensions of the furniture and you just have to pick the fabric.
