Redecorating my spare room in 1 day with no money at my old Irish cottage... Episode 53

This is a nitty gritty redecorating video. All the painting gave me a migraine, or it was the broken toilet... Either way, if you stick this video out to the end let me know because it's a BUSY one and I got bored doing all the painting in one day so I hope you didn't get too bored watching!
The Q&A is still open for questions, so if you have any just drop them below. As always your support and feedback is SO appreciated. The next few weeks of videos will have lots going on, and hopefully this will lead up to a lot of progress for the house and land over the Summer. Morrigan's Cottage is a 200 year old traditional stone cottage set in the west of Ireland on just under 4 acres. Originally this house would have been used by the local farmers, rented from their British landlords. Dated back to at least the early 1800s, someone has been consistently living here and farming this land since then, up until about 4 years ago when the house was left vacant by the previous owners.

This is a very long video, and a lot of it is me painting… I hope it’s not too boring but I think it’s good to show the hard graft and all the phases of the Reno and redecorating! I’ll admit I pushed a little hard that day and left feeling wrecked!

The room looks bigger and brighter, loving the colour of the outside wall too, also make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids whilst doing the renovations, I don't think people realise how much fluid you lose whilst working even more so when outside and the sun is shining, I would take a bottle of electrolyte with you like a sports drink and try drink at least 3 litres of water when working on your house for the day, dehydration brings on flu like symptoms, headache, fluctuating temperature hot and cold, a general feeling of illness coming over you, so does exhaustion, listen to your body and don't push yourself too hard, just chip away at the project bit by bit 💛

That room looks much better painted. That red and yellow was something else. The wall looks good, too. The blue looks like powder blue almost like the sky. I hope you feel better soon. You have been pushing g hard. Get some rest.💚

The room looks great! Hope you are feeling better now. With painting, just remember you are trying to lay down a layer of paint, not stretch or get the paint to cover as much as possible. It needs to be relatively thick to cover well (obviously not so thick it runs). You did an amazing job. It looks miles better than it did before.

I appreciate your dedication to caffeine. A worthy cause for sure. The painting is definitely an improvement in the study. I hope it feels satisfactory having completed it. It sure must have been a looong weekend and hardly surprising you have a migraine from fumes. It will be nice to have things light in the house until you've done all the repairs and know how each room feels throughout the seasons. I hope it's not covid and that you feel much better quickly. Aisling Did you try putting your roller,'paint brushes,and tray into a plastic bag and tie if off?they would stay the same for a long time. You can keep doing it after any painting job!!?😊

I’m not allowed stay over yet - because I’m applying for the vacancy grant the house has to remain vacant until they approve the grant, so difficult! But I hope hoping in the next 4-8 weeks to have the thumbs up and will then start staying there :)

Dear Aisling... Not boring at all ! And little miss Morrigan certainly did a good job as supervisor 🐾. The little room looks amazing. It's much brighter which also makes it look and feel larger than before. And the outside wall is also beautiful, the blue adds to the charm. You'll certainly need to rest after a day like that. Ah thank you so much! The white definitely brightened it all up and just made it look a bit cleaner! It definitely isn’t my best paint work but since it’s just a temporary thing I can look past the bad patches! And I’m all better now thank you :) I had a rotten migraine but it’s gone now

It could have been from the fumes, I did try have the windows etc open but there was a lot of painting done! I am in general a sufferer of migraines so it could have also just been from nothing! The room definitely looks better now I think! I can’t wait to see it green in the end but for the foreseeable it’ll be white :)

@morrigans_cottage I'm a long time sufferer of migraines too. I can get one just from a flash of light. Mine usually start with fractured vision. Usually just paracetamol will work if I take it early enough, but until it does work I can't see very well.

Thank you! It could have been sun stroke, or I am a sufferer of tension migraines so it could have been that from the odd angles I was holding my head to paint! Regardless I’m all better and the room got done ❤️ I hope you’re keeping well ❤️

Hi Ashling a very productive day great to see you make more use of the roallor , two simple tips when using a realer use handle where possible it takes less effort, use extra paint not less. When painting outside try fooling harasontal strokes with handle always,wash with hot water and use confort fabric conditioner on brush bristles to keep them soft and pliable.hope those tips may help kind regards Sean

I wasn't a fan of the bright blue, but the white and blue is beautiful and bright! Did I understand your cottage will have the same colors. If so, I think that will look sharp!

Thank you! The cottage will be similar! I I’m thinking white and maybe a slightly darker shade of blue but maybe it’ll be the same, I’m not 100% sure yet I think I’ll have to do some colour testers for the house!

Morrigan did a fab job! Honestly she’s the hard worker lol! Here it’s a mix, I think most people spell it Mam to be honest! We’ve always been a Mom home but I think Mum would be more used generally! But definitely Mam or Ma would be used most (at least here in Dublin!)
