I would have offed myself a long time ago if I didn't have faith in Christ... Convinced that if I did lose faith I'd be dead, because I can't function in this world without Him (I'm a 30 y/o autistic man). He is the Invincible One I cling to, as life has continued to get harder, and people lie to me, cheat me, disregard me, etc., I can only truly trust Him. Like others here, I'm struggling in most areas of life right now; financially, socially/romantically, mentally/spiritually, even physically. It's all leaving my soul weary from years of struggle. Yet, the Lord is faithful; He will never fail.

@@newme1589 May Christ bless you as well, friend. I must caution you, however. Struggles in those areas does not necessarily mean autism. The culture has hijacked it, along with other conditions often by self-diagnosing, and turned it into victim points and thus cheapen legitimate cases. If you deeply suspect it, I suggest getting a proper diagnosis. It's not a fun thing to have, but I thank God for it anyway for the good things it does allow. What I meant by declaring my diagnosis was that I can't cope being in this world without the Lord. This world rejected me from birth, but thanks be to God because He accepts me, with all my flaws, deficiencies and eccentricities, because He made me and gave me life.

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

And when we read the Old Testament and the New Testament, this is exactly the mindset we see. God is sovereign, human beings are responsible, and somehow, both coexist. Except for some special cases of miracles in the Bible, it is impossible to separate the human aspect of history from the divine aspect, but we also can't mixed them as if they were the same. This applies both to the general history of humanity and to individual stories. It is a "Chalcedonian view" of history and destiny. This perspective permeates the entire Bible but is especially evident, I would say, in the book of Ruth. It serves as immeasurable comfort for those within the Covenant of Grace but also as a great warning for those outside of it. God will fulfill all His promises and threats, and our only hope lies in Christ.

@liambrake28 күн бұрын
I still don’t find the Calvinist view of predestination reassuring at all. A Calvinist will say that a “Christian” who gives up the faith was never actually saved nor elect therefore they never actually had salvation. Ok, well that sounds somewhat reasonable if you are really committed to the whole predestination doctrine, however that still does not give you any reassurance. From this point, every Christian, who can’t know for sure they’re elect, is in jeopardy of giving up their faith and learning that they were never actually elect nor saved. Unfortunately, we cant know for sure we’re elect until death, so we’re constantly on trial for keeping faith to prove being elect.

Im not too sure about Calvinist predestination, and am personally pretty in line with a Thomistic view, but a critique of this Calvinist interpretation would be that it makes it harder for so called “prodigal sons.” Think about it: if you turn to sin and walk in the way of sinners for a time would it be easier to return to God if you think God only died for the elect and since you fell away you must be reprobate, or simply hearing “God died for you and for the whole world?” Presbyterians what are your thoughts?
@PeterTeamExtreme22 күн бұрын
Assurance comes from faith in Christ not from theological view. If you are truly faithful In Christ you trust in him and you don’t need to necessarily understand the process. It would be nice to have total and empirical assurance, but that’s not the point and it isn’t about what would make humans feel most comfortable. Just focus on your relationship with God and faith will come :)

I think that this is a really helpful idea in relation to evangelism. Sometimes I've gotten really stressed out because I feel like I'm letting everyone around me who I don't evangelize to fall into hell, but God is in control and is working to save those he has chosen. I can't screw that up. God is the one who is, has, and will be doing all the work, I'm just here to give a little helping hand because God wants me to, not because he needs It, but because he wants it. It's just like when a father has his son hold the flashlight for him or bring him his hammer. The son is helping and is involved but the father is doing all the work.

I'm just a little confused, if God controls every action I took, am taking, and will take, why then is he just for punishing the un-elect when God basically forces them to do so? If predestination is true, there is no free will (at least from my understanding as they don't logically seem to be able to coincide with each other) which then means that God planned out for Satan to rebel, he planned out for humans to sin, all so he can create more humans that he doesn't plan for all of them to be saved, just certain ones, to build into his new home and eternally separate himself from the others who he made lack faith in him.

I think of free will vs God being all knowing like this: Imagine a game of chess. God is the white pieces, and we are the black pieces. Every soul has a its own black piece on the board, and then God controls all the white pieces. God knows every single possible move and outcome, forever, but we are still able to move our pieces wherever we want. God knows that the game will end in a checkmate for God (thank God), and God also knows exactly when that can happen, or when it will happen... But we are still able to move however we want to in the mean time. We can choose to help God get an eternal checkmate, or we can be removed from the board. So the black individual pieces represent each one of us, and the white pieces represent the things god is controlling around us, whether we realize it or not.

The majority of the churches I've attended in my life have been Catholic, I started attending the parish I go to because it was walking distance from the apartment I was staying at, I don't drive. Then I joined the choir, and one of those friends took the liberty of talking to the director of classes for me, who interviewed me and told me I was already ahead of the game given my knowledge on church history. I've been praying for which church I should attend and honestly if my friend didn't talk to the director for me I'm not sure if I would have pushed myself to sign up for those classes. I would consider myself more of a Molinist, but that definitely sounds like some sort of predestination to me.

So God voluntarily created people to be sent to eternal hell ? For the good of those few elects who will be saved ? And those who for example truly believed their whole life and did a lot of good works up until the end they stopped believing for some reason and they died that same day and that means they never were elect and will go to hell ? Even when these same people are your brother, child, parent, beloved friend, spouse ? That's for your good ? That's a really weird way of seeing things and I don't really see how that could be ultimately good that like 90% of people to have ever existed were created JUST to be sinners and be destroyed on purpose for the "good" of a few elects. Are we just puppets ? Is God a sadist ? I don't know. Maybe, I guess, God decides morality. But thinking like this is still kind of twisted in my opinion. And because you're terrified of free will doesn't mean it's not true. God just knows every single choice we could make and knows every possible outcomes of every of these choices and they all fit into His overall plan but they do impact our life and change many details in our life. Which is why you make choices to eat healthy and not eat junk daily because you're trying to preserve your health and if you don't you will have consequences. But if you did you wouldn't have had those consequences. That's scary. But that may still be true.

To be clear, I wouldn't take this to mean that there's some plan out there that you'll necessarily walk into by default. God wants us to be active! But I affirm that all things work for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose, which is to say, all genuine Christians. Edit: to use one example from the video, praying for a wife should be accompanied by putting yourself in situations that might lead towards that-being social in spaces where women are around, asking people out, etc. Not just hoping the woman of your dreams will fall into your lap.

5.14 "Trust in Christ and make sure you don't fall away from Christ" Literally, how am I supposed to do that? If god decides everything, then he also decides whether I believe or not. If god does not put some event into my life that makes me trust in Christ, I never will since every action is predetermined. The only conclusion I can draw is that all people who do not believe in god at the end of their lives are simply the ones that god does not want. How can an all-good god simply decide that a fraction of his creation simply should not be part of the chosen ones that have events in their lives that make them see the truth?
@BernardinusDeMoor28 күн бұрын
Zoomer might get mad at this comment because he's supralapsarian, but… The usual infralapsarian answer to that is because what we deserve is hell. We, as fallen sinners, deserve hell. It would be entirely just for God to leave everyone in their sins, and damn them all. But nevertheless, God, out of his great mercy, chose to save some of us. If we are to marvel, we should be marveling that any of us were saved, rather than that some are damned. That said, absolutely what you do matters. God works by those things. When he preaches the gospel, he does so (ordinarily, at least), by human preachers. And so forth. God predestines things to happen, but you actually doing them is an essential part of that.
@ZentralratderZentralräte28 күн бұрын
@BernardinusDeMoor Thanks for the detailed answer. There are two things that would be great if you could expand on. 1. When you say we are damned by our sin, what exactly do you mean by that? Is the damnation simply the absense of gods grace, which is horroble compared to the state of beeing with him, or is it eternal torture (hell) which god is activly infliciting on you. The first I could understand, if one does not accept the love of god he can't force it on you, but an active act of unimagiable abuse by the hand of an "all loving savior" is compleatly nonsensical to me. 2. You say "actually doing them is an Essential part". What part is that. Do I have the free will to defy the "predestined". If not then again we are at the original problem, were no one can decide to believe, but still the nonbeliever are punished.
@BernardinusDeMoor28 күн бұрын
@@ZentralratderZentralräte 1.The latter. I think the bible's pretty clear that we merit the wrath of God for our sin. Our sin is against God, which makes it immensely bad; it's not some light thing to trifle with. It's not abuse. 2. In general, no, you'll always act the way that you're foreordained to, but it's not like that's at all contrary to it being your decision. You're still meaningfully making choices. In this particular case, I don't think we come to Christ except by the work of the Holy Spirit in us. But I think you're misconstruing things a little-it's not like our salvation or not is based upon us doing a good or bad action by believing or not believing. Rather, we deserve damnation regardless, and our belief is a work of God in us by which we are united with Christ and so are saved. So it's not some injustice that someone didn't get the chance to believe or something; they're still damned for all their sins in general, and they earned that.
@ZentralratderZentralräte28 күн бұрын
@@BernardinusDeMoor I think my point stand, if god decides who believes and who doesen't, then by what condition does he decide who gets saved through believe. Take two neighbours A and B in a village. God has given both of them access to a church and Christian literature. But now god also predecides that A believes the teachings of the church and B does not. By which right can god puish B for something that he himself predecided. I hope I did not missunderstand your argument. If this is the nature of god, he is utterly evil.
@BernardinusDeMoor28 күн бұрын
@@ZentralratderZentralräte I've tried twice now to show that you're framing this all wrong. You haven't adjusted at all. Again, damnation is not primarily a punishment for unbelief. It's a punishment for sin more broadly, and is well deserved. "if god decides who believes and who doesen't, then by what condition does he decide who gets saved through believe." We don't know. God's decisions in his providence and election are treated in the scriptures as a magnificent and breathtaking mystery. "By which right" Already we're in a bad spot. God has an absolute right over his creation. Nevertheless, this is in accordance with justice. "By which right can god punish B for something that he himself predecided." Perhaps you should take that up with Paul; see Romans 9. Anyway, God's punishing people for sin, and that's entirely just. You may respond: but did not God predestine that man would sin? Sure, but that does not make you any less guilty in sinning. Why are you not asking this question the other way around? Why would God save either of them, when they have both earned their condemnation and a vast wrath upon their heads? "If this is the nature of God, he is utterly evil." Why would it be evil for God to punish sin? Is that not instead the utmost justice? You talk like you don't understand that sin is bad, and deserving of punishment.

1 Timothy 2:4 God who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. This verse completely proves that predestination in the way in which Calvinists understand it is FALSE! God didn’t create people with the purpose of separating them from Him for eternity!

This is basically reiterating every comment here, but I cannot thank you enough for this video (ofc God planned it but yk what I mean). I've just felt spiritually dark for a while, and deep down i think i believed i'd never get a wife for whatever the reason may be. I desperately needed this

Scholars such as N.T. Wright have argued for an alternative interpretation of this verse. See how Wright translates it: "We know, in fact, that God works all things together for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose." Note the "with those" instead of "for those." This isn't exactly novel. A similar choice was made in some of the major versions from the middle of the 20th century. - RSV: We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. - NEB: and in everything, as we know, he co-operates for good with those who love God and are called according to his purpose. - TEV: We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose.

N.T. Wright is a Heresiarch, do not listen to him! he is a Papist and a Judaizer. J.I. Packer was always very clear that N.T. Wright was Not a Christian! not in any way, shape, or form! Stay away from him! for N.T. Wright is N.T. WRONG!

Church Fathers citations?

They don't have any. Determinism, that is to say Calvinism, is a novum in Christian theology that was something the Fathers debated against in the Gnostics, Manichaeans , and Pagans.

Not sure if you’ve made a video on the topic before, but if not do you think you could make a video on saints? Like what they are, why certain denominations don’t talk about them vs why some do etc? God bless, keep up the good work.

Judging by the comments, I think God worked the release of this video for many of our good. Yeah, I can't understand the slang of my generation either. And hey! We're the same age. Cool. Good video! I forget sometimes (being a Baptist, at least in name) that the good God has planned isn't only for eternity. Gives me a little hope as part of that 99.99% of your viewers. And yeah, I can confirm that if I could mess up God's plan, I would. One more reason to be glad of his redemption of me.

This almost speaks even further about the fact that whether you're Calvinist or simply not Calvinist, it's simply a brotherly issue and not a salvation issue. We all have assurance of our salvation because we know that our salvation is not dependent on us whether we believe in the Calvinist interpretation or whether we don't. It is dependent solely on Christ's sacrifice and faith, and the mantra of "don't worry about if you're elect or not, and don't ask if others are elect or not" holds about the same water as "bring the Gospel to all men (mankind) because you never know if someone will come to Christ."
