I really like the idea of Alastor having this glitchy effect because he literally says 'this face is meant for radio' and maybe his character could glitch out more or have animation areas as sort of a 4th wall break.

I LOVE the way you drew Charlie and Lucifer's faces. The funky proportions do such a good job of conveying their inhuman nature, enough to be slightly off-putting, while aslo being silly and whimsical enough that they're not immediately threatening.

This... THIS is what I want from Hazbin character design discussion videos. A lot of people hate the style, but I note that it's mostly because their preferred style is there own. In which case, the video isn't really about criticism (at least not completely). The better title for it would be "If I drew it in MY style or if I designed the characters in the show." Because if they're truly the worst they could be that all Hell would break lose, this show would never work to behin with, but we have to understand the Pilot dropped when nothing of this art style has ever been done before by something indie no less! So ofc, it served its purpose then at the time. But times change and now we get so much of the overwhelming lines and color from other shows too, so ofc the audiences' palette preferences change with it and it's not always the show's fault when they've already established their standard before this. All we can do now is see how they handle this moving forward. With consistency or rebrand a new because in a way, one's art style is one's own recognizable brand. So ofc, if given the chance, most would love to see their own.

Though speaking of art style, I love love LOVE yours!!! 🤩 It's so comforting and reminds me of the storybooks I read as a kid. I really love your idea about their strong silhouettes too and I agree with your thoughts about the red! Having one similar color scheme for all of them also shows where their alliance lies through visual design. ✌️😁✨ Other than that though, I think I remember the reason for Husk's name is to say "husk of his former self" as for the wings, I belive it's a reference to magician capes? And he had it from since the character was gifted to Vivziepop by their sibling? But don't take it from me though. These are probably my favorite hazbin hotel redesigns honestly- and idk if it's just me but they feel like designs I'd see made for a stop motion animation movie [ like coraline, james and the giant peach, those kind of styles ] which absolutely feels more fitting for the hell city/circus theme than the canon style in my opinion!

Your exaggeration of face shapes is incredible! I especially love how Alastor looks more unnerving than Tumblr sexy man. A lot of Hazbin's designs feel very smoothed out and homogeneous in a way they don't feel distinct/ they don't tell me much about them at a glance. Especially in such a sharp and recognizeable style such as Vivzie's.

These designs are all great - I’m no fan of the show. Obviously you put a lot of thought into the little details but it’s amazing how just diversifying the body shapes would help the cast on its own, even if the style weren’t to vary from the source as much as yours does. Your style kind of reminds me of disney or a children's book-esque, which is to say i found this videos designs and general format really enjoyable to watch!! Honestly you're one of the few Angel Dust designs I've enjoyed so far. While people have the right idea to dive into the spider look, i never feel it's executed properly which isn't to put down any one elses designs because i doubt i could do better... I personally enjoy that he gives off kind of drag queen vibes because it's such a missed opportunity for me personally; especially knowing his ex mafioso ties, like seriously!! Ex mafioso to drag queen pipeline?! The opportunity is there people!! I agree with you talking about hazbin having this general inconsistency problem when it comes to design-wise. I generally don't have a problem with characters all wearing one singular color if they expanded it more, like there's so much shades of red that they could've played around with more which i think is generally my huge problem with Vivzi's designs. There's always this cool concept that she has about these characters but there's this sort of lack of expansion or willingness to dive deeper into it, like i didn't even know Angel Dust was meant to be a spider because of how lacking it was in his design?? Finally, a character redesign that is well researched and thought out without sacrificing what makes the character unique. It's great that you enhance the design and put your spin on it! It's cohesive and still sticks on what makes the character them. I'm not talking about just the Hazbin fandom redesigning it. I mean the whole "Redesign" topic in general. People often replace the original design with what aesthetics they like or assume the character is, which leads to out-of-character designs or following stereotypes. Also this is your first video, wow! It's really well done.

My impression was vaggie was a moth sinner but that was changed by the time of the show, her original concept was that she was a sex worker who hung herself so then in this way shed be a moth demon. Because theres no way this backstory is still canon with being an angel (based on how horrible heaven is in the show) With what we got tho im fond of the idea she was disguising herself as a moth demon. I think itd be interesting if she had been wearing fake fur patches like leg warmers or something. The lil antenna is a must. I love how you drew them here, her bow is a interesting almost visual mimic of what antenna "should be there" if she was a moth.

This is my favourite HH redesign. Really. I gawked at every design, you did it!!! You got rid of alastors horrible anacronistic hair! Angeldust looks like he could be cosplayable! Vaggie actually resembles a moth now! Charlie is just a creechure. Shes the same but you style makes it look so delightful. My only caveat is with dusk. Wonderful design, the wings don't serve him well. But he might be a little too dark. I was watching this with my phone, brightness medium, and i had to heighten it to even be able to read his hands on the final product. I like the dark red of his vest and him being gloveless makes sense, so maybe a lighter gray for his fur? All in all, this is wonderful.

Absolutely love your redesings! I'm personally not at all a fan of Hazbin and agree that it's characters are, while not terrible, but yeah, definitely need more diversity in terms of body types and shapes. I feel like if Vivzie didn’t just stick up to her favourite tumbrl sexyman body type, when the show wouldn’t receive that much hate, since I keep seeing a lot of people criticising Hazbin's designs when they talk about what they dislike in the show But I've rarely stumbled upon redesigns of the show’s characters that I actually find good. Mostly because people who try to redesign Vivzie's characters complain about how they "have too much details, way too complex, look like adopts from Deviantart!!!"…and end up drawing designs that have too much details, way too complex and look like adopts from Deviantart Yours look so cute! So simple and charming, like from an old cartoon. I especially adore the idea of Vaggie's hair looking like moth wings and her wearing armour. And, yes, Husk definitely should've been chubby. Lucifer's redesign is also really cool, I like that you added a tiny goat beard on his face, because there are many artists who draw Satan with the similar beard. And him and Charlie having same ears is a nice cute detail c: Keep up the good work❤️

As a fan of Hazbin and Helluva, redesign videos like yours are ones I really enjoy. Whenever I find new redesigns of these characters, people who are either redesigning them for fun or trying to explore what could have been stand out to me the most, especially if they already have little or no problems with the original designs. I'm not exactly against people being critical or negative about the shows, but with how often controversy pops up in the community and how many people are trashed on for their takes, I prefer to watch redesigns from people who are more positive about these shows so I can at least feel good about how I feel about them.

Something you said during Alastor's redesign really struck a cord with me in regards to the mass influx of criticism towards Hazbin's character design, but particularly Alastor's. I feel that a lot of the criticism I've seen towards Alastor's design in perticular, almost always boils down to it not matching the "vibe" that the sentence "trickster radio demon" gives off. I feel like people hear those words and get so many ideas, as well as so many expectations. I think most people expect a suave, eerie kind of guy. Which is why I think I've seen a lot of redesign's really zero in on making him look REALLY humanoid and making the radio a BIGGER part of his design. I think most people find these concepts to be really "cool" and want the character to reflect that aswell. That's why I think you can really only think of Alastor's design as lost potential if you have preconceived notions of how that premise is supposed to be executed, or what kind of impression it's supposed to give off. To me, I don't think the intention with Alastor was ever to have him look intimidating. It's stated in the show that his appearance is in fact, not doing him any favours in living up to the reputation he has. Which I think is absolutely intentional, knowing that sinners appearance is supposed to be a form of punishment. Having him appear as he does, which I would classify as pretty disarming, I mean the guy is basically a fawn. Matches his personality as well as punishment way better than if he were to be any shade scarier, cooler or more intimidating in design. Which is why I don't think I connect to a lot of Alastor redesigns that change the base premise of how he appears (which i guess I'll affectionately refer to as furry looking mf for now). Because, even tho they are almost always amazing and really cool approaches to the idea, it almost always feels like they are designing for a DIFFERENT character, the suave, eerie demon guy you think of when you hear the phrase "trickster radio demon", not Alastor. Which to me, feels like a slightly unfair form of criticism towards the design. Because it crosses into the area of altering the character for the sake of preserving the conventional way in which such an idea should be executed. If you are redesigning Alastor, I'd rather see a redesign of him than a different interpretation of the idea of a trickster radio demon. If that makes sense. Which also brings me to the last criticism, which is him being Creole while not exactly "appearing" Creole. I put that word in quotes because even tho I absolutely agree with the sentiment that diversity is important in character design, there is really not exactly ONE way to appear Creole. Alastor is supposed to be mixed, Creole (mixed) Mother, White (most likely french) Father. And more than a few things in his character and character backstory imply that he was white-passing when he was alive. Which I don't exactly clock as an inability or refusal to portray the character as creole in appearance. But more as, intentionally portraying him as white passing Creole. Which isn't inaccurate to the appearance of some Creole people. (Ex: Troian Bellisario). A sentiment I've heard from a lot of Creole people who have commented on Alastor being Creole also boils down to people not really understanding what the Creole identity is, or that the people under it don't really have a set way of appearing. Although most of this is regarding his human appearance, as his sinner appearance is, like i said a furry fawn looking mf. He is also most of the time characterized through his old-timey mannerisms and behavior, as well as the trans-atlantic accent which I feel reads as white to more people than not, simply because of historical implications. So I wouldn't exactly blame anyone for not getting the impression that he is Creole or where his roots are, from that. Because I don't think you are supposed to. As mannerisms, accent, most things that convey culture and ethnicity are intentionally masked through performance, rather than being authentic. aaand he also looks like a deer in a suit. That too. So I would agree that he isn't really readable as Creole, but I also don't take that to be a negative of design and characterisation, because i don't think he is supposed to be fully read as such currently. Hope that made sense to anyone who bothered reading it. LMAO. As a final note I do HAVE TO give all my compliments to these designs. ESPECIALLY the Charlie one. It changes relatively little, but the little it does change manages to fit perfectly into the design. It's probably my favourite one. Like the big ears are a perfect way to convey that she isn't fully human without cluttering the design. I also love fat cat Husk. (though I have to tell you that the word husk does match his being thin af, a husk, a dried up shell of a person). I do understand why they went for a thinner cat, wings do a lot for his shape language already, but I wish he had like a beer gut or something, it would fit him, I've seen a lot of redesigns that give him a pear-like shape, that really works well while still incorporating the wings. Your art style is so unique and it's genuinely so impressive that this is your first upload?? That's crazy. Can't wait to see more!

Honestly the best redesigns I've seen. The OG art style really struggles with how disconnected the characters feel in their surroundings. They don't feel like they have weight or exist within their space. But I think the way you managed to play with shapes and allow the details to breath and flow really solves that. I could see them animated with a cel shaded render for animation. Very nice work.

Creole people can look like any race, the term merely referred to the population pre anglo settling of the territory(spanish, africans, french, natives). This is why i wish viv had been specific because people outside of the area really dont know how complex the concept is. Same with making him speak "broken french creole" linguistically creole is a term for a language mixing, french creole as a category exists in every french colony. Specifically, what we think of as americans is Louisiana french or Louisiana creole, these are two different things. She didn't do much research for conveying the ideas she wanted. Which makes things frustrating. What she wanted was mixed race African-white alastor with lousiana french most. Most likely, LF, i have to assume that's what we mostly hear on tv? today Louisiana Creole only has about 10,000 speakers, so that's my guess. Interestingly, in the 1920s, there was a push to anglo-size the state, and children were punished for speaking Lousiana French, so maybe that's a reference? But also, viv might be confining Haitian creole stereotypes with Louisiana ones. Haitian creole is sometimes called "broken french," so anytime i see broken and creole in the same sentence, i get suspicious. Anyway, Louisiana history is really intetesting. But it is simplified a bit too much. Historically, theres even "creoles of color" to specifically highlight the non european culture within the Creole heritage. Idk i need to do more research, of course, but that isn't to say an African Creole alastor is wrong but rather a simplification. African-Spanish creole alastor would be amazing to see from someone. Hmmm, anyway, my ramblings over after realizing i didn't know much about the complex racial history of Louisiana. i wanted to dig into it. So i info dump whenever possible. Tldr i wish viv had been more specific

Gonna be real, I was initially really put off by the need to caveat at the beginning and almost didn’t finish this vid. I drew some charlie and luci art based on cute father daughter pictures and it wasnt until i was coloring that i realized i had like 8 cheeks to fill, i low key felt like i was looking at pikachus. I still love that detail but its something i think of now when people mention the cheeks lol

these are quite literally the best HH redesigns i've ever seen, my faves from these are Vaggie Angel and Nifty, tho i do love all of them. i always felt something was amiss with other redesigns i saw (even with ones i liked) and could never place what it was, while i still have no clue what was off about them you've managed to avoid whatever it was

I really cant agree with some of these takes but your character redesigns are so good! I really like Huskers, like when i think of Husker, this is honestly how I see him, and then i look at the actual design and im like wtf is that lol Also i'm honestly glad you forgot the wings cause his wings and eyebrows are just too much to look at, like he barely even uses his wings anyway? And i like that your version makes him look even more like a cat. Kinda giving aristocat's vibes. Oh and I also gaslighted myself into thinking he was bigger too xD like I swear, i remember him having a beer belly, like come on, he needs one! Kinda makes him feel more cat like too i guess lol

I’m in the same boat as you, I watched it going in with very low expectations (based on the pilot.) I thought it was enjoyable for the most part. The music was the strongest point for me. i dislike most of the character designs, i think they could’ve been a lot more thought out (plus needed more body types and diversity) but I didn’t hate the show. These designs are absolutely fantastic and I love how much of their personality shines through in your reimaginings! Alastor is my favorite design of yours. Really great work ❤

Husk was originally designed by vivs sister i think it was its uh, a lot on a good day. I headcanon hes got cheetah energy chirps and purs mixing bird and cat. His spots can be casino chips and cheetah spots. But i really agree, husk is maybe my favorite of your redesigns cleaning up his look, your drawing has great energy.
