Redfin fishing at Waranga Basin is something that I look forward to each year in the sprint time. Waranga Basin is full of redfin, most of which are small however there are some big redfin out there and are usually caught by people fishing from a boat or kayak.
On this occasion I was wading the edges of Waranga Basin casting a Strike Tiger 1.5: curl tail grub, and Micro Spoon to see what I could catch, expecting that If I did catch any redfin, they would be small, but fun.
Fishing is all about fun, and I certainly had fun on this afternoon.

I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to the lovely people in the video for saying g'day and allowing me to use the footage of their son/nephew Hunter in this video, and also a huge thank you to Hunter himself for catching a fish on my fishing rod and showing us how to reel them in like a true professional.

Speaking of light gear what's the best lb line for redfin?
@RKJFishing
@RKJFishing 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheOutbackFisherman I like to use 6lb line for redfin, but you could easily use 4lb or up to 10lb and it wouldn't make much of a difference, as long as you fished the correct lures and drag to suit the line and rod you're using

@@TheOutbackFisherman Hey buddy, I love Maxima Ultragreen 4lb. 4lb is usually fine for most redfin, but 6lb will mean less lost lures as the line doesn't break as easily.

This is all where it began for me Robbie. I lived in Shepp and my dad sailed at Waranga Basin. I was 5 years old, saw some older boys catching Reddies, told dad I wanted to try, he gave me a rod and off I went. I found tiny shrimp in the weed in the shallows for bait and caught my first fish, a Redfin all by myself and have been hooked for life ever since. That was 1973, Wow what memories!! Old bugger now!

Brilliant film as usual buddy. Just the thing to watch as I'm having a late breakfast, far more up beat than the news. Now today I was really paying attention to the water clarity and the "tinge" it had to it, in many respects it was similar to a Scottish loch where the water is stained with peat, gives it a kinda "tea" like colour. Orange is the colour your after for water like that, added bonus is that Perch (redfin) generally see orange things as a rival and go straight into attack mode.
@robbiefishing
@robbiefishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks heaps mate. Our water can get crystal clear here in some waterways. General the further down the river system the dirtier it is. In contrast, down in Tasmania the water is always a real tanin stained colour. The streams in the headwater of this waterway are crystal clear, but that is a probably 150km upstream. LOL

Thanks mate. No we don't get them here unfortunately. LOL If you look through my Murray cod fishing videos you will see the Australian equivalent to your pike. Murray cod are very aggressive when they hit the lure. They grow enormous, much larger than pike, and don't big teeth. They have small razor sharp serrated teeth. I follow a British channel called Blackcountry piker. Steve does a lot of canal fishing for pike and it is absolutely something that I would love to do some day.

The other day it got pretty chilly so I decided to turn the fan off. I'm not sure why but everyone in the helicopter gave me a dirty look. 2. Did you know that the propeller on a helicopter actually keeps the pilot cool, because whenever they stop spinning the pilots start sweating.
