That William Ernest Henley poem gave me chills! Powerful delivery! Subbed. The most evil trick ever pulled on men was convincing them that poetry was ever unmasculine, when the words of men like Emerson, Kipling and Henley have taught me more about what it is to be a man than I could have learned in a thousand lifetimes.

In full agreement with you, TJ Blaidd. And that is an understatement.. The fact that the word 'masculine' is under a cloud of late is one of the saddest occurrences since sliced bread. Just joking. But I am serious here, so make that '..since the big bang'. Honestly. The idea that striving for some honour, pride and steadfastness is considered toxic nowadays is very very unfortunate. This poetry is so powerful, has so much clout. Perhaps people shy away from it because it is so confronting, such a nose-rub telling you how meagre the catch is that you landed on the shores of the sea that is Life. Then again it must be understood (I think) that 'man' and 'men' oftentimes are metaphors, denoting or connoting 'person' or 'persons'. This is rather obvious. Poetry is all about connotation and implying the unsayable. Furthermore, one-syllable-words have special status in poetry for they are the embodiment of condensement. Also, 'person' is the least sexy word imagineable. Having said that, I vividly recall how a clutch of young teachers at a Department of English in a Northern town in The Netherlands at one time collectively scathingly dismissed the poem 'If" by R. Kipling, predominantly I felt, because of the last line. They also deemed it unbearably jingoistic. My simple take on it is that the last line is universal. An offering to all people. On a side note, I regret beyond measure how I (and many others) completely missed what, in one way or another, was made available to me at high school.

I was fortunate to come across this collection of poems after honestly feeling quite down reading about current events. I've learned of the term doom scrolling which is what I was doing reading one negative thing after another which did nothing but give me a sense of despair. I'm not saying we should be ignorant of events but often times the only news they reaches the public is negative and positivity is ignored. I've decided to doom scroll no more and instead come here and listen to inspiring and thought provoking poetry.

Watching videos on KZbin, About life-changing poems for hard times, The world around me fades away, As I get lost in the words and rhymes. The words they speak are solace, In a world that's sometimes tough, The poets' lines are pure and true, Their words, they're more than enough. Each stanza's like a warm embrace, That wraps around my soul, The phrases are like lullabies, That make me feel whole. The tears that flow down my cheeks, Are like raindrops in the night, As I watch those moving videos, I feel like I'm taking flight. So I'll keep on watching videos, On KZbin, for sure, For the poems that they offer, Are a balm, that will endure.

DAVID & GOLIATH SONG !! David, the shepherd, a tender of sheep Would pray to his God before he would sleep. One day he awoke to the roar of beasts A bear and a lion in search of a feast. David slew both with his knife and his hand Though still just a boy and not yet a man. The Lord's love for David was proven once again When he challenged the champion of the Philistine men. Goliath’s beastly fingers and hideous toes Made David more selective with the stones that he chose. One for the giant, he knew he would slay Four more for his brothers who were laughing that day. The giant told David, "I'll tear you apart The birds and the animals shall feast on your heart." David yelled back, "I’ll soon see you dead And when I’m through I’ll cut off your head!" The worst of all men, drew high with his arm Came forth to David to do him great harm. The youth jumped ahead just as quick as a lynx A stone from his sling popped the giant where he thinks. Blood and bone spewed forth as that devil fell down A thousand pound soldier lie dead on the ground. With Goliath’s own sword David chopped off his head Then took it to Jerusalem to prove he was dead. By Tom Zart Google = Most Published Poet On The Web Tom’s 1,650 Poems Are Free To Share! This is so beautifully spoken thank you for sharing 🥰 Poetry and music saved my life. They reminded me to love myself. This was the piece/peace I’d be searching and seeking outside myself for so long. Oooh my beautiful reflective souls Stand tall courageous inner child Look deep in mirrors in all homes Speak the name given graciously mild I love you let’s play again eternally now here and nowhere in time Witness self love witnessed Alchemical treasures priceless inside so kind so kind so divine. Let’s F.L.Y 💜🙏🏻First ~ Love ~ Yourself🙏🏻💜

The conviction in the voice when words are spoken makes this poetry even more powerful. It's like every word that is spoken is spoken from experience and nothing else..

My mother kept Desiderata in our dining room when I was growing up. I had forgotten how meaningful it is, as much now as then.

Sorry to intrude with a humble poem of mine. SELF REMEMBERING POEM One, open your heart to ... Two, remember that I love ... Three, fight to be ... Four, find out what you here ... Five, live while you're ... Six, there's always something to ... Seven, no hell no ... Eight, do don't ... Nine, this world is neither yours nor ... Ten, can't make up my mind about the EGG or the hen.

What words and what a voice; Shane Morris could read a comic book and give it depth.

Desiderata By Max Ehrman is by far the most powerful poem ever written. Especially the version on Illneas channel. The music and narration by Tom O'Bedlam gives it an extra dimension.
