I met Melanie in 1974, in New Zealand, at her concert. The concert was fabulous! I actually called my eldest daughter Melanie. After the concert I asked her to autograph...and asked her to write " To Melanie...from Melanie". My daughter still has it. ( My daughter is 51 now)

The members of the crowd lighting candles and holding them high on that rainy August night while Melanie sang is one of my fondest memories of Woodstock.

I remember Melanie's songs growing up in the 70's. "Lay Down (Candles In The Rain)" was inspired by her experience of performing at the 1969 Woodstock music festival. She had a lot of hits such as "Brand New Key", "Look What They've Done To My Song, Ma", "Ruby Tuesday", "Beautiful People", "Ring The Living Bell", "The Nickel Song", "Bitter Bad", "Together Alone", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" etc.

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Melanie just twice. The first time was in 1974 in Melbourne (Aus) where she did an impromptu (free) concert at the Myer Music Bowl (basically a rehearsal for her official concert at Festival Hall that evening); and then again in 2019 at the Port Fairy Folk Festival. Both were magical experiences, and Melanie was such a beautiful soul.

I ran sound at a little coffe shop concert back 2011 for Melanie. She was so awesome and sweet. She gave me a kiss on the cheek before she left! The High Preistess of Woodstock, kissed me on the cheek! How cool is that!? RIP Melanie..her voice was a force of nature:) Try the live version of Peace Will Come from the 70's you will love it!

I was born in 1962 & girls in those days seemed so sweet & kind. That hippie vibe was an amazing time to be alive. Melanie was the quintessential 60s - 70s girl. A natural beauty & an amazing voice.

Hi - I've loved Melanie since I was a teenager (71 now - eek!) to my mind, her very best tracks are her cover of 'Ruby Tuesday', and her own 'Tuning my Guitar', so if you're inclined to hear more of her . . . And by the way, there's a wonderful updated cover of 'Lay Down' - by Meredith Brooks and Queen Latifah - well worth a listen.

That is fun. This is from a legendary Dutch tv show hosted by Willem Duys. He also presented a music program on the radio each Sunday morning which my parent always listened to. We had in those days only two national tv channels so I think over seven million Dutch people must have watched that live on tv.

Melanie was such a sweetie. our official "Hippy Singer" even though she said she really wasn't that. Her other notable spngs include Look What They Done to My Song Ma, Brand New Key, Beautiful People, The Nickle Song, Ruby Tuesday [Rolling Stones Cover], Peace Will Come, I Will Get Over...a cover of Jim Croce's "Lover Cross."

Melanie Safka was one of the greatest singers of all time. This song is a 💎, one of the best ever. She did a great cover of Ruby Tuesday by the Rolling Stones, I prefer her version. Look what they did to My Song Ma is very good also so is the duet with Miley Cyrus. Best of success with your channel.

Hi, Pretty Redhead: I believe this was Melanie's first hit song. Any of the radio stations that I listened to had taken both sides of the 45 and spliced them together with side 'B' followed by side 'A'. Side 'B' was a nice spoken part which you did not hear in this performance. I didn't know it any other way until later.

By coincidence, today, Feb 3 would have been her 78th birthday. Most all my favorites were born in 47, including Tommy James and David Essex

The Edwin Hawkins had a tòp ten hit with "Oh Happy Day (When Jesus Washed My Sins Away.) I think society was a lot more open minded to the whole "Avenue of Ideas" whereas today we're more quick to shut down opposing viewpoints.
