This song/performance is almost criminally underrated.

Love this video. Not only is the song awesome (Tuomas has said the song is about the history of Egypt told from a fantasy point of view) but the video really shows the smaller venues Nightwish plays here in North America as compared to the much bigger theaters and stadiums they play everywhere else. Because of that smaller size we don't get the big stage production like they do in Europe. No video wall. No pyro. Saw them live in Boston in 2022 and still a magical show (best concert of my life) but on my bucket list to see them live in Europe. Also in South America, specifically Buenos Aries to be part of that crazy passionate audience. The bonus with the smaller venues is that it is easier to get great seats!

I agree. I saw them with the simpler stage setup in Montreal 2022 in a 2300 person club venue. Made the mistake of sitting on the balcony. Good view, but sound was distorted because of the curved ceiling. Went down near the stage later, and it was so much better. Floor got concerned at one point as a girl had a problem near the stage crowd surfing. The audience is right up close to the stage, as it was in Tampa.

@@ecbftl That's awesome. I live in Burlington, VT and growing up, Montreal is where we went to see live music in the 80's. Saw Rush and Gary Numan at the Forum and saw Stevie Ray Vahn, Peter Tosh, Talking Heads, and The Police at Olympic Stadium. CHOM-FM was my go to radio station and listened to a ton of Led Zeppelin, Rush, and April Wine. There is a Canadian reactor Rayactions who reacted to Sign of the Gypsy Queen. Need to get my passport so I can start going to concerts in Montreal again instead of driving all the way to Boston.

@@rnowak85 Nice to hear from someone who knows the scene. CHOM-FM haven't changed a lot and is still the go-to rock station in Montreal, and are available on the web also. Nightwish played at what was the Spectrum, but is now called M-TELUS. In the past at that venue I saw Moist and also Asia on their Omega tour with an extensive Robert Palmer drum solo.

@@rnowak85 CHOM-FM is still going, and plays a variety of rock as it always has since the 70s. I have heard them play Led Zeppelin, Rush and April Wine in recent years. You can find them on the web, along with their play lists. I first heard April Wine and Rush when they played at my High School in Toronto many years ago. Last saw April Wine at a Canada Day outdoor show near the canal in Montreal I think in the 90s. Classic Canadian rock.

Thank you and welcome back with Nightwish. I think the most divergence between first singer Tarja Turunen and Floor Jansen is that Tarja Turunen says "look at me I sing here" and Floor Jansen "I sing for you".

It is called the singer's formant and singers (especially opera singers) train the hell out of themsleves to get it. Once you have it, singing over an ochestra or rock band does not cost you half the effort. It saves your voice long term.

🖤FLOOR JANSEN 💪Valkyrie Queen🖤 🥇Most versatile singer. 🥇Best theatrical storyteller. 🥇Beautiful personal appearance on stage. 🥇Has the most contact with the crowd. 🥇 Really knows how to entertain the crowd. 🥇 Frontwoman with most years active with Nightwish. 🥇 More reliable than...🥈Tarja (fired) 🥉Anette (quits in the middle of tour). 🥇 Old Nightwish songs were adapted by putting more thought and creativity into them, making them even more magical, and Floor made these old songs her own. Having said that, I still feel I'm selling Floor short😔

Love your example wrt the absolutely amazing way Nightwish (Tuomas, THE compositional & lyrical GENIUS), layers each song 👏👏👏 My entire being is forever embedded in these layers! And comparing Floor’s singing to rain, brilliant; Floor’cast can be a whisper or a roaring thunderous downpour, and anything in between! Floor can rain on me 24/7! & 🫵 can be my neighbor!

Tuomas (in 2007): What could be more of a cliche than a heavy band singing about Egypt’s history! One of my favorite tracks. And Marco’s also. The track’s text is a pure glow of mind’s images that have no base in reality. An escapist’s fantasy dream of Egypt five thousand years ago. We put in the lyrics for parts that we call “slave chants” - the man choir is singing along with the kettledrum “Shah!” and “Agadaga!”. It brings pretty historical feeling to the song - pulling blocks of stones, the sand rustling under your feet and burning sun.

That was nice Red🙏It realy is the joy of all the band members why they always leave us with those positiv feelings. It IS special,i like bands like Rush, aristocrats ,Dream theater, and a few others wich also give me joy of listening to them but, with Nightwish it's getting more personal in a way, it's more like, your friends are on stage and playing for you. It is adictiv in a way, because,Who doesn't like positiv feelings? 😁🤘

"Sahara" when it's cold? It was soon after "The Mummy", 1999. By the twelfth century, the "1001 Nights" was established, with the story of Scheherazade being its frame: "One thousand and one nights..." Oh, synesthesia! Cool! Tuomas has a bit of that (Ocean born, The Blue, “Deep delicious blue beneath”, "Piano black over cleansing waters", "Terribly sweet perfume deafens me"). The multiple layers of sound, like strata in rock. Go Marko! Vocalise scat? Did you notice her heels? How does she move like that?

Emppu's haunting guitar in the start, following hard and heavy contrasting Floor's pure singing... It just works. Nice to see a new reaction creator who has this feeling of being real. Reminds me of the earliest reaction creators I fell in love with. One thing to notice (typing this while listening, so this might be a miss) is that they really enjoy performing. Just look at them smile and having fun. Emppu is always a bit mischievous gremlin up there and I love it! Marco unfortunately had to leave the band, and we have to respect his choice, but at least we got the recordings. This sheet is epic. I'm surprised that Sahara isn't more popular, but considering how much they got excellence, I guess it's not a surprise that such gems like this don't get the appreciation they deserve! So let's blame them for making too good music! :D

Hey neighbor, as usual I love your Nightwish reactions. Nightwish is what drew me to KZbin in the first place. Every single reactor that I am subscribed to started with a Nightwish reaction. Sahara is kind of a deep track that most people don’t react to. But it is an amazing song. And Goddess Floor is stunning as always.

Annette did this quite well but Floor is something else. This wasn't the first time Tuomas used suspended pentatonic to get the Eastern sound. He first used it on the debit album in the track Tutankhamun. Floor though, adds to it with the "snake dance". Love Emppu's guitar of course but as usual all the instrumentals are superb. Oh and Synesthesia is more common than many realise it - Eric Clarke on The Wylde Side has it; Alexander Skriabin famously wrote using colours to visualise his music

This is sort of a deep track, but has become one of my favourites over time. The original singer is Tarja, who is very much a classical singer. So she only sings in that classical style but she's really good at it. This song came out on an album with the second singer Anette. She has a more pop/musical sound, and admittedly had a hard time singing the songs from the Tarja era live. I'm not a big fan of her but there are plenty of people who are, so that's neither here nor there. The amazing thing about Floor is that she can handle the entire Nightwish catalogue and has made older songs her own, like Ghost Love Score from the Tarja era and this one from the Anette era 😊. If you are ever going to do videos comparing versions you'll want to compare the two of the original and the current one by Floor. Word to the wise: you can share which one's your favourite of course but don't pick sides 😉

I love this song. It draws you in, as do all of the Nightwish songs, then carries you on a journey. Floor is a treasure, and you're right that she rightly gets most of the attention, with the very able backing of the marvelous musicians that make music with her. I think, however, that it is time that you did explore some of the music from the Tarja and Annette eras. The history, and growth, of this band are a true journey. I see you haven't reacted to Tarja's version of Phantom of the Opera, from the End of an Era DVD yet, and I am thinking that is one of the most watched in their catalog. The Siren, from that same DVD is another must listen to. As for Annette, her rendition of Slow Love Slow, live at the Montreux Jazz Festival is a must see. Heck, you haven't even listened to what Marko can do yet. Try High Hopes, from End of an Era, or The Islander, live from Tampere for a better idea of what a really great voice he has. No comparisons from me. I think there is something special about all of them and I think you really will know Nightwish better for listening to them.
