- Production notes for future me to wonder why/how I was this bad at video production -
- This video was the most scatter brained I’ve been. Thought I was my A-game at the time, but ended up being my C+ game lol. Also got sick around the 75% mark too. So, in no particular order…
- Script - Really tried to change my ‘voice’ up. IE I tried to remove at lot of my crutch words. Stuff like ‘ya know’ and ‘lastly’ and ‘finally’ and ‘still.’ Just trying to vary things up.
- Script - Made a ton of mistakes the first go around, enough to have me go back after already recording the audio just to fix them. A few still made it in, like the black section on the ankle isn't actually a navy blue piece, it's a black piece. Though I don't think it'd be much different if the piece was navy blue as both are too dark for black paint to stand out anyway. Still, need to be better about catching those.
- Audio - I noticed in the previous review (EG RX-78-2 [US]) that my tone had become brighter. I really like it! But then again, I regularly see people that enjoy the more ASMR aspect of these videos. So, after reworking the script to fix those errors, I decide to rerecord the audio a few times. Really happy with how it panned out, though I still have some fine tuning to do.
- Audio - I think I’m ready for new music, but instead of crossing that bridge now, I figured I’d just turn it way down for the time being. I’d like to move to using multiple songs per video, maybe changing them for each of the 4 categories. Something to look into. Might not work though, as I don’t put ad-breaks into these videos to provide good changing points. We’ll see. Not the ads, as you if you sat through the pre-roll, then you shouldn’t have to suffer through any more lol
- Footage - Took about 3 nights to capture the footage. I think I’ve really gotten it down to a schedule. 1 for standing shots, 1 for close ups, and 1-2 for slider shots.
- Footage -I really couldn’t capture as much footage as I’d like because my computer only has a 124gb SSD to work with, and really only about 30gb of space available for working. Buying a new computer soon. Gonna start in 4K!
- Footage - Getting really happy with the set and slider set up. I do stabilize the slider footage after the fact though. This means that none of it is exactly 1:1 locked down (despite the slider itself being locked down), so crossfading between them isn’t 100%. I need to mess with the stabilizer effect in Premiere and try to standardize it’s zoom/smoothness.
- Footage - All stills were done with the Canon RF 100mm L, and they look AMAZING imo. Really happy with that (expensive) purchase.
- Computer - I made the stupid decision to update Adobe Premiere before working on this video. I should’ve known better, as it usually requires a good week to get working again. Still, I’m getting a new computer because at this point this laptop is the only bottleneck. It’s gotten me through some good times, but it’s time to step it up.
- Computer - Bought a 1tb NVMe drive in the hopes of replacing that 124gb SSD, but couldn’t get Windows to boot from it… I instead have it dangling from a USB Type-C port. Decided to try placing all the footage on there instead. Premiere ran great! Basically flawless! I also had enough space on the internal SSD to store all the still images, so no need for the weird compression/proxy stuff like in the EG RX-78-2 [US] video! I should’ve been doing this years ago, rather than cutting down on file size just to get it all on the internal SSD’s 30 gigs of free space. This is the way.
- Editing - Took forever lol. Once I found my groove though, I knocked a ton of it out in one 12 hour sit down. Then knocked back a few drinks and did another 6 hours. Think I slept for 14 hours afterwards plus was pretty hungover, but hey, got work done!
- Editing - Went super chill with the saturation/vibrance here. With the color of the set and this suit, everything looked gross when color graded too harshly. Need to find a good balance, as even now it's a bit of an eye sore.
